When clicking quit the game crashes
I bought the game a few days ago when it was on sale and I'm enjoying it so far. The only problem I have (if you even consider it a problem) is after I save my game, go back to the main menu screen and hit on quit - the game takes me back to my desktop and a window pops up. The window says:

Dragon Age: Origins has stopped working.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

My game save is fine but I'm getting annoyed seeing that pop up everytime I quit the game. I have no clue why it thinks it's an error when I'm just clicking quit on the main menu. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it something I'm just going to have to deal with everytime I finish playing?

Yeah have that too, but not everytime. No biggie though, as long as it saves the game properly.

Yes, I also have this issue but also now the game closes even without purposefully ending it, which is even more annoying. I wish I could find out why. This is happening more and more... I am afraid it will happen right in the midst of the game finale`. I restart Steam; restart my computer; also I clean my disk folders; check for defrag need (always not an issue b/c this is a new computer with a LOT of space on it yet); I run the virus scan etc.... but the game is still closing without my instruction to do so.

I think (for me) it has something to do with system-RAM usage. If I play for a couple of hours the RAM is at max 3Gb, seems like a small memory leak that builds up over time. After a couple of hours I get stutters and stuff and am forced to restart te game (and get the crash when I close it).

Yeah they spent a lot of time while making the 1.05 patch that fixed the DLC authorization issues trying to find the cause of the memory leak/long period of play issues and were gathering info and logs etc. from players. It seems they failed to fix it.

From one of the other forums, I learned that changing the game back to DirectX9 fixes the crash bug. I followed the instructions given in the bioware forums to change DAO back to -dx9 and the game has not crashed since! Quite happy... let me know if you cannot find the instructions and I will relocate the link to them for you.

yeah that happened to me from the first time I played it. Still I prefer it to crash after I have closed the game as oppose to during so I'm not too fussed

When it was just after the game was closed, I had no problem with this bug either. Problem began to be an issue when the game started crashing more and more frequently :(
But as I said, the "fix" was changing back to dx9...has not crashed still since I made that change.
