OMG, this game is TERRIBLE! #raptorgate
I tell you a story.

One day, long in the past, random guy watched Jurassic Park and think: those clever girls looks so cool, i would like to play a game with them.
Fast forward many years - and same random guy, now dev of "In case of Emergency, Release Raptor" finished creating his game.
Did he do ANY research about dinos in all those years? NOPE

so game goal are:

Be a velociraptor.
Feel like a velociraptor -- this is our central design goal.

First of all: dino in this game IS NOT a velociraptor - cry me a river, dont change the fact its not
Thats Deinonychus
http://dinosaurs.about.com/od/typesofdinosaurs/ss/10-Facts-About-Velociraptor.htm#step2

Second of all - i understand that making games is time consuming, but wa devs of this one locked in basement last 15 years?
Those dinos were covered in feathers
http://dinosaurs.about.com/od/typesofdinosaurs/ss/10-Facts-About-Deinonychus.htm#step4

Dear devs: PLEASE change the model of "raptor" to feathered one, just DO IT
Even if you dont have time to do this on release, do it in free optional DLC

EDIT

btw just watched dev diary -raptor sound effect are also way to Gojira like(or reptile based), should be more "bird-like" chirps and squawks, but i guess it asking too much (then texture change on one model)

for example

and original voices from Jurrasic Park
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifgCsFPo3jE

Except those scientific errors(simplified, common population raptor outlook), this game look quite nice, btw devs should link a new video to steam store page, the more info about game - the better

Cheers -- I'll take that as sarcastic comments, hopefully. In terms of the raptor bits being incorrect, absolutely; I wrote a blog post[arcengames.com] that I believe is linked from the steam page about that very subject.

The sound effects have already been improved, although we are still working on them. The stuff created in JP were custom and are copyrighted, so we have to make our own. Fortunately there are a fair number of sources talking about what went into their sounds.

New video and more info in general is coming tomorrow!

Here's a better story:
One day a fully evolved furry (the new kind that expanded their fetish beyond farmyard animals to lizards and reptiles) by the profile name of ShadowSkill came across a game on the store page. Knowing that it had a connection to dinosaurs, he dived straight in with excitement. However, this spark of emotion turned into one of anger and frustration, having seen his fetish of dinosaurs being criminally portrayed incorrectly.

The Primal Carnage community is overflowing with dino furries, and that caused me to cut out any past memories of a normal childhood interest for dinosaurs. Grow up and get a life, you dementedly diseased imbecile.

JP has a din oexpert and still used a huge Velociraptor in the mvoies. Big deal. Of course the reason was the name Deinonycus hard to get used in the movie and for the viewers. So they used the Velociraptor name instead. And that sticked on it.

Whoa, whoa! Holy cow guys, let's not jump all over ShadowSkill. I share his enthusiasm for feathered dinos, as well as the fondness that a lot of us also have for the more reptilian-looking ones. At any rate I feel like his post was pretty much going for funny rather than actually attacking.

And it was attempting to provide information alongside that, which might have confused things. But I didn't take it as a personal attack or something, and at any rate we shouldn't go attacking him.

No harm, no foul! And I don't think we should get in a ruffle about people preferring one vision of dinos over another, honestly.

"get in a ruffle" - - - good pun, Chris! Or bad pun, if you're not into the whole pun community!

I should have said "no fowl" to go with it. ;)

Personally I love the look as-is. For some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I feel like this game has my name all over it.

Hahaha! This thread just keeps getting better!

That's awesome. :)

It's also a bit too big for a Deinonychus. It's more like a juvenile Utahraptor (The guys from the first JP movie were Utahraptors). And If you use feathers, then model the real bird-like raptor, not the half-arsed one (click[3.bp.blogspot.com])

We think of it as an adult achillobator.

Very much in agreement with you about half-arsed-ness of most feathered depictions. That's something we're vaguely consulting with a paleontologist on who is actually making his own dinosaur game as well (a very awesome one that is upcoming and very unlike ours).

I don't want to overstate our relationship to him: I share things with a sometimes-contractor of ours, who is friends with the other guy, and they chat about what is right and wrong about it on skype, and then I hear back. ;) And it's completely at the leisure of the two of them wanting to do this, versus some official thing.

I hate feathered dinosaurs. Also Pluto is a planet.

I vote for rainbow-coloured scales...

And woe betide you should the reflections not be realistic!
