Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Game Issues Today (Official)
Folks,

We are aware that many of you are having issues starting the game today. We are in the process of migrating the game away from Gamespy and have run into a few issues on the Steam side in getting everything configured correctly. We are working on it and will continue to do so until things are back up and running tonight for you.

Stay tuned. Thanks for your patience.

Updates:
Please see post #5 to determine if you have all of the latest files. If not, please see post #37 to validate your game cache. If after following those steps, you are still having issues with your game running, please add to this thread and we'll work with you to get the game running again. Thanks.

The set of fixes should be live now.

Please restart your Steam client and allow any updates or downloads to complete.

Note: The Kingdoms expansion game has been migrated into the base game and will no longer show in your library. It can be accessed by selecting the desired expansion type from the Medieval II: Total War game which should now be in your library (assuming it previously wasn't).

If you still have issues, please post a new thread and I'll work 1:1 to get the issues resolved with you.

One more note: You'll know if you have everything updated if you look in the mods\{modname}\packs folder and see 3 files. data_0.pak, data_1.pak and localized.pak. If you see 2 files, you can use the Validate Game Cache files to restore the missing files. If you see 4 files, then try restarting your client to get all updates from Steam.

Thanks for doing CAs legwork, Sean.

As an aside, any chance of looking into Rome 1 CD key issue? "View CD Key" hangs at "Requesting Key" and some folk theorized that their multiplayer is not working due to that.

Sheepify: I can take a look and see what's going on.

Just to clarify, he's talking about the expansion mods.

Actually, which Rome game are you referring too? (full title or ID would help, there are a lot of "Rome" games on Steam :-)

He is talking about Rome Total War.

Rome: Total War

Believe it or not, there's a bunch of us grognards that still prefer that over the sequel :)

Well, in that case, we made changes to Rome: Total War today as well. One of those was to disable keys as they are no longer needed. The MP not work for M2:TW is a separate issue related to files that were and weren't on disk.

After installing the update I can't start any of the Kingdom expansions at all. The main game works fine, so does the new steamworks multiplayer (if laggy on the multiplayer menu), but any of the expansion options you select when starting Med II in that selection menu don't start at all, they immediately crash.

Can you follow the steps in post #5 above and let me know what state you're in?

The update was bad timing I thought my game was dead and reintstalled my Steam for no reason I guess. I have bought Kingdoms and when I play the game no mod selection pops up or anything just takes me to the regular Medieval 2 menu. All I play is Teutonic, Crusades, and Americas and I'm missing all of them!!
