They are both horrendously obtuse and you should play through both with a walkthrough but they are worth it for the story and the beautiful backgrounds. Especially at the sale price!

and, as mentioned in another thred, you should have some kind of 'watching people climb gazillions of stairs horribly slowly'-fetish. I jokingly reference anachronox's elevators... now that I'm a bit further along Syberia 1, this joke leaves a bad taste in my mouth as I yearn to replace each and every step of those stairs with individual elevators. Which would be a vast improvement.

I played through the first one without a walkthrough, and I'm gonna start the second soon. You definitely need to get them both! First one ends on a cliffhanger... And, yes, the pace of the game is slow.. But that is the beauty of games like this. Take your time and let it sink in, like a good novel. A vast difference to the majority of games nowadays, where you get guided along every step of the way. Syberia is truly a gem.

'Taking my time' and 'being forcibly slowed to a crawl' are two different pairs of shoes. Many puzzles are designed to have as much redundant legwork in them as humanly possible PLUS fricking stairs stairs stairs and it's pretty obvious it's a padding technique to artificially extend play time.

I've been playing games for 30 years now, it's not 'I don't know how it was, back then' and can't get nostalgic, overlooking lots and lots of flaws of classic games 'cause that's the way it was way back when.

But from a modern standpoint, it's dull, boring, clicheed, the 'zany' characters are totally overworked (oscar being the worst offender; god, what an annoying douchebag!), voice acting ranges from fine to god-awful, it's padded like a 50s pin-up-girl's bra, the music is way too repetitive and dull... puzzles are decent at best. And despite having a female protagonist, the developers themselves seem to have been quite sexist (I won't go into that in detail, it'd take too long).

I don't regret spending, what was it, 3,50€ or sth for the bundle, but I don't think I'll bother with the sequel.

This game is badly written, the "ui" is crappy, there's no way to avoid walking through the same screens over and over and over on your way to somewhere you need to be. This game & the sequel are BARELY worth 5$. Do yourselves a favor and skip this one, or play with a walkthrough if you absolutely feel you "must" play this "classic". There's a reason I'd never heard of it mentioned with "Sam & Max" or "The Longest Journey" -- those are actually good games. This one isn't.

Bundle of course. Because price isn't high for this good story.

Get both. I loved Syberia and the ending of Syberia II was tear inducing (in a good way).

Sinking Island is another good game.

Loved this back in the day.
