Paradox Interactive was a piece of cake.
I'm stuck on my last four though. Blue Sun, Europe, Japan and New Ark.
I can almost make Blue Sun, but not quite in time.
I just did Japan, built a dome right by a rare metal & managed to scrap by until 140 by alternating a rocket with essential materials & every second rocket a passenger rocket (usually 7-11 people)
The limited applicants made for a very slow game - Turn 180 atm & got 3 small domes, 3 medium domes & 1 mega Trigon dome (Got free), usually I would have built double or triple the amount of domes.
After 140 I built a mohole then I've had unlimited money
Then I got the deserted rocket event & the second free rocket helped with selling rare metals
The Bushido (Japan) achievement is to train 200 specialist before Sol100...
I never said I completed all their achievements for them
I don't bother with steam achievements
I meant just to be able to survive
Was there a reason you suggested it?
@OP If you are not concerned with achievements, then it just comes down to how easy you can make PI work out for you. PI already has a couple of useful perks, namely, they discover more breakthroughs and researching a breakthrough grants more applicants. Very nice ;)
Now, since achievements aren't a factor, you may enable as many of the new Game Rules as you wish which will make it an easier game. Normally, I would avoid any that disqualify achievement eligibility, but you have no need to. Feel free to enable as many as you like to make it an easier run through.
I would also suggest choosing Astrogeologist since that provides a rare metal resource and therefore a guaranteed source of income right from the start.
Even if you only enabled the free prefab game rule, that would give you everything you need to get started.
I wish you success ;)
Basically choose City Mayor, Politician or Astrogeologist as your commander to ease funding - you could choose another commander but one which gives more funds is probably going to be easier. I think astrogeologis is best because not only do you get the revealed rare metal deposit and +10% extraction, you'll also get the deep anomalies much earlier which will give you extra funds, research and breakthroughs. Altough going City Mayor and straight up buying a bunch of probes once you have Improved Probes is also a pretty good way to quickly get those deep anomalies (on average you seem to get more funds from the anomalies than the probes cost).
Then your goal is to build a Micro Dome at a rare metals deposit, containing a grocer, dinery infirmary, park and 2 Residences. Literally don't get anything that requires advanced resources maintenance if you can help it, you can't avoid the Rare Metal Extractor (machinery), and you'll need an Accumulator or Wind Turbines: Accumulator is preferable because Polymers are easier to come by. Use an RC Commander instead of a Drone Hub so you don't need electronics maintenance and consider using Vaporators rather than water extractors: sure they cost more but they only require metal for maintenance and you only need like 2 to get started. Never buy Factories (except 1 Fuel Factory at start) instead focus on boosting your research capabilities and just research them.
Once you have that income going, live within your means, keep exploiting more rare metals and you can consider exploring the import of tourists (this works better once you can bring 22 passengers per rocket) and research Martian Patents to provide some supplementary funds.
Please pay attention. I have no problem.
It's the OP you should be addressing. Although he wants tips for an easier game with PI, not a 1055% difficulty o.O
New Ark, find a map with comfort markers, place some domes covering 1-2 of them and it is easy.
Japan is easy, 2 academy, and go for high comfort for births and get as many colonists as you can from Earth to get your pop up fast. Higher population is more births and it doesnt matter as long as someone gets trained for achievement. Leave only the Loners and Idiots on Earth.
Blue Sun, ignore the commercial building, go for flat out for rare metals
Europe is easy, just remember that Research labs and outdoor labs SHARE income so you get a collaboration penalty for more than one or other for dome. Hawkings Institute has a LOW collaboration loss. I think 5-6 labs on 3 shifts, and 3 Hawkings is plenty. Also set an academy to scientists only.
i suggest it for a different reason, most breakthroughs are discovered only with a deep scan. Breakthroughs being researched is a big boost for PI.
The main thing you got to deal with for PI is the fact you have ONE rocket and it takes forever to feul. If you time the 5 free pods right it aint a huge deal.
Hmm.. perhaps I was over cautious with disallowing all flaws.
Ah that makes sense. The commercial building seemed far too labour intensive for little return.
Doh! I have always been close but not quite with this one and yes, triple shift could well tip the scales.
Many thanks, I'm so close to completion of every achievement, I'll get right to it ;)
Just 3 to go then ;)
Seriously, get 2 water vaporizers, fuel refinery, RC Explorer, RC commander, 15 machine parts, 5 electronics, 10 Polymer, 2 drones and 1 probe. (50 tonnes).
Choose a spot with no hazards (very close to elysium 1 & 2), drop your probe where you think it might be good, if it reveals concrete close to rare metals, land there otherwise land wherever the highest output concrete is found.
Build a water vaporizer and fuel refinery immediately adjacent to your rocket, power them with 2 large solar panels and set them to skip the night shift. Get a scanner going asap and power it with a small solar panel, skipping the night shift.
Build the concrete extractor and start storing it up. Launch your rocket asap. Scan anomalies that unlocks new tech options first. As soon as you can research the one that gives additional funding, put 1000M to outsource research. Make sure you research that specific tech in that period. Also recommended are the ones that give you passive research (2*100), the one that lowers fuel needed for the rocket and Farm.
Once you have 80 concrete, put down a dome next to a rare metals deposit. It doesnt have to be close to your starting area. At that time also get a drop pod in with an RC transport. Transport needed materials back and forth between your start and the dome. Use your 2nd water vaporizer for the dome, build a moxie next to it, at least one storage for both vital elements. Unless you would get >50% bonus to production, use solar panels over turbines. Add 2 batteries if you use solar panels. Make sure you produce about 30-40 power. Build a residence complex, a diner, a grocer, a medical centre, a large park and if you can, a farm.
Once your dome is complete but your buildings inside are still constructing, send colonists from earth. Get only young and adult ones, skip most flaws, prioritize sexy and generally pick good ones. They will prosper easily and should allow you to have a martianborn rather quickly. After your rocket arrived you send it back immediately. Once you can, bring another batch of colonists in, mainly to work your rare metal mine. At this point the game is a walk in the park.
Dont be shy to call in supply pods for food or machine parts. Make sure you get the small electronics and machine parts factory prefabs also from earth.
