DS4 Buttons prompt mod (basic, normal gameplay only, EN/JP/FR only) v0.48
Update1: Fixed the alpha channel.
Update2: Still US lang. only, but this covers most areas, excluding the Options screen that shows the default controls for the base game and the Motorcycle/Missile Operations/Cannon segments.
Update3: JP lang. done.
Update4: FR lang. done.

Just unzip the contents inside the Bayonetta data folder (...SteamApps\common\Bayonetta\data) and you are good to go.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Sunday here and nothing better to do, so I gave it a go.

Just unzip the contents inside the Bayonetta data folder (...SteamApps\common\Bayonetta\data) and you are good to go.

I marked it is Eng. lang. only, because I used the data00_us.cpk as base, since my game defaulted to English and I really don't know how the core.idd files differ from one another inside each data00_xx.cpk file. You could try renaming the us folder to fr/gr/it/jp or sp to see how the game behaves, but it will most likely not work correctly.

The IDD files are a PITA. So far, every tool I tried, failed, so I had to manually search, extract and then reinject the DDS files, which is really time consuming. I may update this mod once I gather the energy necessary.


Known issues:
- Tutorials will still use the X360 buttons on its initial screen, but the gameplay will then switch to the Dualshock prompts. See http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198155823340/screenshots/?appid=460790
- The inventory menu tabs will still display LB/RB to navigate between tabs.
- I had 1 crash, no idea if it was related to the mod, it happened between the place where you meet Rodin (after going the round elevator) and before going down the stairs towards the fountain.

Yeah it's kinda glitchy with other language, well in French at least. Ingame it looks fine but in menus it's weird, sometimes the text next to the button stay in French, sometimes it's in English, sometimes the text is distorted, etc.

I'll stay with Xbox prompt, but thank you for the effort, the icons are very well done! And for those playing in English it looks almost perfect :)

Opinions on how I should carry this mod forward?

Would you guys find it useful with only the gameplay parts being modded? This does not include the controller image that appears when dodging the statues lighting strikes for example, that texture is a "blank" controller template where the game then overlays the buttons textures, see http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=916161297 , you can change the template, but not the buttons placement, so the asymetrical layout would look weird either way... sigh, why not like when using KB/M, it appears as a simple "Shift" input.

Doing just that, I could mod the other languages just fine, including the tutorials and inventory LB/RB (just tracked down all the textures I needed in the IDD mess!), also tracked down the options controller layout texture and the Cannon/Missile Operations/Motorcycle control layout, but that's a little more involved, since it's all blended with the background, I would need to remake things from the ground up. I may tackle this later ( ._.)

Hello! I installed your mod (@This ranking makes no sense Thx again) when you posted it. I am planning to come back to Bayonetta this weekend. Have you made any changes, should I reinstall it? I mean it's working great, but I was just wondering.

Maybe some minor edits, but better download it again, just in case. I think the last thing I did was actually replace the prompts that appear during tutorials.

Just reinstalled it and I can confirm that it now also works during tutorials. \o/ :steamhappy:

edit It also works in inventory menu etc. Seems like it's complete now which is very much appreciated.
