NPC crash on loading screen - solution
Hi guys, just thought I would share what helped me resolve a crash on loading screen that was driving me insane today.
Apparently this game (as well as Civil War 2) for some reason crashes if the option to Initialize Textures is on. However, without being able to load the game it is impossible to change this setting. I spent this afternoon looking online for this solution and this seems to work:

Right click on War of Napoleon (in Steam Library) -> Properties -> Local Files -> Browse Local Files

Go to NGC Folder -> Settings -> General (Open with Notepad)

Under:
4. *** System, Editing & debug options ***
TexAtStart = 0

(you need to change the TextAtStart value to 0)

I am no PC wizard and I simply cobbled together what I found online (don't want to take any merit for it but simply wanted to help those who may be turned off from an amazing game!)

hope this helps!

Hi, thank you for the advice. I got the same problem. After doing what you told, it's fixed. Then I went and played with the options a bit. The TexAtStart refers to the option of loading texture in options menu. I changed it to 1 while putting MemUsage to around 25% (could be higher, I guess it depends on user) and PreCaching to 1. I'm not sure about the last one whether it affects anything or not. These are in the same file, just above the TexAtStart. I guess pre loading texture could be more convenient to some.

Thank you, this worked for me also.
But, what am I missing by not having textures?
My high end system can't get the best graphics because of a bug?
Just asking.

glad I could help! I wouldn't worry too much regarding texture, basically all the function does (allegedly) is loading the textures before but I played Ageod games but it off and on and barely noticed a difference (the only difference may be a bit of lag when scrolling with the mouse at the edges of the screen). But I wouldnt worry too much about it. It was the same for Civil War II (had to turn the textures loading off) but no noticeable difference. I hope it helps!
