SSFIV:AE & USFIV Online Play Status
Hello SSFIV: AE & USFIV players,

We’ve received a lot of feedback from the Steam fighting game community regarding network connectivity and performance since SSFIV: AE’s migration to Steam. Unfortunately, the 'netcode issue' is a rather complex matter that cannot be exclusively pinned down to the game code or the Steam client.

As some of you have noted, Valve recently made some tweaks to the network API that should help improve matters. However, it’s not a fundamental fix since Valve cannot make drastic changes to the core P2P network design when there are thousands of other games that depend on it. The development team will continue following up with Steam engineers to identify other solutions that don’t require a complete redesign of USFIV's matchmaking/lobby system. We'll keep you posted on our progress.

In the meantime, we recommend Street Fighter players update their Steam client to the latest beta version with the improved P2P netcode. You can opt in to Beta by selecting Settings --> Account --> Beta participation --> Change… --> Steam Beta Update. Another tweak that may also help reduce the stalling effect is to reduce the “Max pings / minute” settings to 1500 or less in the Steam Settings Menu. The option can be found under Settings --> In-Game --> In-Game server browser: Max pings / minute.

Once again, we’ll do our best to keep everyone updated as soon as additional progress is made.

Thank you all for your continued support and patience.

-Capcom Fighting Team

This has nothing to do with the online status.
Btw. Decapre got buffs.E.Ryu and Poison nerfs. The most was bugfixes and some little changes.
And deal with it. Zangief need the nerfs.

@Wbacon it's good that you say something about the online problems.I hope you can keep up giving us some important news about it.
Capcoms lack of communication with there community is what causes a lot of hate/rage against them.We don't know whats going on and get no informations at all.

I hope it get fixed sone.
Whoa, is this really happening?

Did anyone follow these steps? How stable is the steam beta client with other games?

Personally I'm going to just wait for the next Steam update rather than opt for a beta. Switching out wifi for an ethernet connection has reduced my lag to tolerable (most of the time) levels. I suggest anyone who is using a wifi connection for online gaming to opt for a direct connection with your modem/router via ethernet, it helps.

I might mess around with the max pings thing, not sure if that has any side effects though.

>THIS<

From 1.03:
Change in Endless Battle – Users will not be able to join the game if the host is currently in a fight. Only once the fight ends and both the host and guest are returned to the lobby can they receive requests for other matches. This will prevent users from pinging the host during their matches.
Revert this change, when you finally fix Steam's spam and those 1000 opened ports.

After the long silent treatment, glad to know Capcom still cares.
You know what? It would be a lot better if you actually bothered to post once in a while and at least hint that you're working on the issue. I mean, come on, the last post we had of you was a blatantly misleading changelog that promised to make things better but did very little if anything at all to fix this underlying problem that has been going on since forever. And that seems like forever ago. I know you're just a marketing/community guy doing your job and you don't know the status yourself and all that jazz, but dammit, at least keep in touch. This doesn't fly, you can't just show up once in a while, pin a post and promise a solution to keep potential buyers coming, with the expectation that it will be eventually fixed.

By the way, I have been enrolled in the beta and saw no distinguishable difference once the concurrent connections fix rolled around. The lag still pops up, always at random, always for a few seconds and then goes away. Menu navigation still gets stuck randomly, and doing anything that involves links or FADCs while accepting challengers, either in arcade or training mode, is an exercise in futility.

I want to see this fixed. It doesn't bode well for Steam as a platform or Street Fighter 5 as an upcoming Capcom PC fighting game that these issues still remain and are apparently structural and non-trivial to fix. So, the least you can do is tell us people are actually trying to fix it. I had given up hope, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

Man, here I thought things were possibly looking up when Wbacon returned a few days ago, I should've known it was just to generate some positive posts on the Steam forum in connection with today's Steam store front page discount to sucker in a few more buyers.

Potential buyers, be warned. The game has been in its current broken state for a LONG time, occational posts that its being worked on should be taken with a big block of salt. If you have a beast connection, sure, you can usually get a few matches in before the lag from the search pings 'DDoS attacks' from other players becomes noticeable, but it will inevitably cause the game to perform horribly.

This applies to public Ranked mode for the most part. If you only want to buy this to mess around with a friends in private lobbies, the netcode performs much better and is usually very decent.

Thx for the heads up. Since the content of your answer, I will assume you guys actually read some replies here, and some of the mine too.

Just another "case":
I used to set "any region". Well, same or any, no setting has any influence to the lag, but when i set to "any", i suppose that there are a bigger pool of potential players, the game stutters even worse in the arcade mode, and in the online battles too.
Once i did alt+tab and started look at the network. Some of the times, there were connections draining all my upload link, one of them responsible for more of 80% of it, and it was when i had quitted playing but had the main menu open. In one of these ocasions, was an australian IP!
(Maybe a more "granular" region setting could alleviate this, even in the optimal scenario is just unreal to believe that would be possible play with a player from another continent.)
I notice it more strong at noon, and specially after 18:00 specially friday, saturday and sunday, suppose that are the time when more players are connected - and just when i had the time to sit and play.

I am actually using the steam beta client since that beta fix for ssf4, and already changing the ping but with no conclusive result, and the issue stiil persists; guess i will reduce it further to 1000 or 750. I'm just curious... it is possible do a information work about this? Since I'm monitoring this all the time, but a lot of players don't, an unilateral setting can do any good?

Depending on the time of day there might be very few people playing in Endless lobbies, even searching for all regions. However, I tend to find matches much more quickly by using fight request, even when I restrict it to my own region (Eastern USA)

Why does the team refuse to give out this information beforehand? Surely you realize that a lot of people feel like you're flat-out ignoring them at times.

tl;dr version - "we don't know what the problem is so here are some tips that users have posted a few months ago"

You should really go for a server system instead of P2P.
