Save Data Migration / Troubleshooting / FAQ (Updated 06/01/15)
Hey Dead Rising fans,

With the migration of Dead Rising 2 to Steamworks, we’re sure you have a couple of questions regarding just how this migration will work. We’ve put together a quick FAQ to answer common questions:

::UPDATE:: Please be aware that a small number of users have encountered an issue wherein importing a corrupted GFWL save file may cause unexpected issues or strange behavior affecting gameplay. As an extra safety measure, please backup your existing save files prior to using the data migration tool.

Save Data Migration Information
Thank you all for your patience. The save migration tool for DR2 and DR2OTR for Steamworks is now live. The tool will allow you to transfer progress from GFWL to Steam. Here's how to use it:

1. Boot the title.
2. Proceed to the Main Menu.
3. Select Options.
4. Select Import Games for Windows Live.
5. Select yes at the prompt
6. Select the “DR2SAVE.DR2S” file.
7. Maximize the title.
8. Select OK at the import successful prompt.
9. Go back to the Main Menu.
10. Select Start game
11. Load the save file.

Please note that although we had originally intended to also migrate the GFWL Achievements alongside the save data migration, due to technical reasons, the tool is only able to transfer over the save data only and not the Achievements. Note that some, but not all, achievements will unlock as a result of transferring your save. We apologize for any inconvenience but hope you will continue to enjoy the game on Steam.

In addition to the save import, the following issues have been addressed:
• Added in support for the X1 controller.
• Fixed a crash for users with usernames longer than 24 characters.
• Fixed a crash that occurs when PC audio quality setting are set over 48000hz

Q: The game crashes as soon as I launch it. What should I do?
For Windows 8.1 Users: Please try setting deadrising2.exe to compatibility mode for Windows 8 or Windows 7. You can do so with the following steps:

1. Right click on Dead Rising 2 in your Library, then select Properties.
2. Select the "Local Files," then click the "Browse Local Files" button.
3. Right click on deadrising2.exe, click on "Properties," then select the "Compatibility" tab.
4. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for," then select Windows 8 (or Windows 7) from the drop-down.
5. Click "Apply," then "OK."

Special thanks to Nathan for their post outlining this, found here!

Q: I have the game on Steam already. What do I need to do to upgrade to the Steamworks version?
A: If you purchased the game on Steam or purchased and activated a key through Steam previously, simply allow Steam to download the latest patch, and you’ll be all set! All Steam copies of the game are entitled to this update, and no special action on your part is necessary.

Q: I already have the GFWL version of Dead Rising 2. Can I still get the Steamworks version?
A: If you purchased a retail package of the GFWL version, you can redeem your GFWL activation code using the process outlined here[www.fuzeqna.com] to redeem a free copy of the full, Steamworks-enabled version of Dead Rising 2. Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate a Steamworks transfer for those who purchased the game through the Games for Windows Marketplace, or those who no longer have their original key, as no authentication option is available. However, the game will continue to support all of its features on GFWL.

Q: I purchased DLC for the GFWL version of Dead Rising 2. Will that carry over to Steam?
Unfortunately DLC purchased for the GFWL version of the game will not carry over to Steam. Additional DLC purchased for the GFWL version of Dead Rising 2 can still be enjoyed using the GFWL service.

Q: Will the Steamworks version support Steam features like achievements, Steam Cloud, and matchmaking?
A: The game will support a number of Steamworks features, including matchmaking, achievements, leaderboards, and cloud saves. Trading cards will be coming at a later date, as well!

Thanks for your continued support! We'll keep this post updated with any new information.
