Titan Quest

Titan Quest

Game won't start
I just bought Titan Quest and Titan Quest Immortal for 75% off and the game won't freaking start. I click on it and the Icon appears at the tool bar and then it disappears. I clicked a few time and nothing happens. Getting a little angry...

My Laptop spec is

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ / 2.4GHz
8 GB Ram
64 Bit
Windows 8
Geforce GTX 780M

If you can help I would really appreciate it....

Install the latest video driver from Intel for your integrated cpu video:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23105&lang=eng

Install the latest video driver from NVidia for your dedicated video card:

http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/66702

Restart your computer.

Install DirectX 9.0c:

Right-click on the game in the Steam Library. Click Properties->Local Files->Browse Local Files. Right click Titan Quest.exe, select Properties, select Compatibility tab, set it to Windows 7 compatibility mode. Click OK. Try to launch the game the game by double clicking on the Titan Quest executable. If it doesn't work tell me what error you are getting or what the symptoms are.

I get a black startup box and then a message that says "Titan Quest.exe has stopped working"

This is what worked for me.

Set Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode for Titan Quest\Titan Quest.exe.
Set Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode for Titan Quest Immortal Throne\TQIT.exe.
Run as Administrator (no compatbility modes) for Steam.exe.

Be sure to shut down Steam completely and make sure its not still running in the system tray then run it as Administrator. Start Titan Quest at least once before you start Immortal Throne.

If you don't have Immortal Throne just skip the immortal throne steps and do only the Titan Quest steps.

If the game stlll won't start with these settings try editing My Documents\My Games\Titan Quest\Settings\options.txt and Steam\Steamapps\Common\Titan Quest Immortal Throne\Settings\defaults.txt to set full screen = false instead of full screen = true for failsafe windowed mode operation.

If that still doesn't work then try to run the event viewer (mouse to lower left corner, right click, Run "eventvwr") and see if there's a crash event log in Windows Logs->Applications and paste a copy of it. It should be the first one if there is one. Maybe seeing what the exact error is would provide more information.

My Titan Quest demo can not start because MSVCP71.dll is missing. The error message reads that I should reinstall the program. I uninstaled it and downloaded again - still the same problem. Any idea where or how I can get this file?

That DLL file is part of Visual C++ 2003 runtime and that never had a redistributable package the way that C++ 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012 do. It came as part of NET Framework 1.1 I think and part of Visual C++/Visual Studio 2003. The easiest way to get it is to download the file ala carte from a site like this one:

http://www.dll-files.com/pop.php?dll=msvcp71

Download the file and put it in the folder with the game executable. Right click Titan Quest Demo in Steam Library, click Properties, select Local Files tab, click Browse Local Files to find them if you don't know where they are.
My titan quest Settings folder is empty...But on the settings folder in my computer I put fullscreen "false" but it is still not working...

I have the same problem. divers are updated so its not that. tried the compatibility settings. no good. nothing has worked. It did run once but now nodda. I have a 1mb dsl connection so I don't want to reinstall and I seriously doubt that would help. If anyone has an idea I would be willing to try it.
