Good question. I bought this when it came out of early access a year ago and I'm still waiting for a fix to the constant crashing.

There was stated in another recent thread a couple months ago by one of the devs that development had slowed due to finances, BUT that they were planning to patch in late December. Here we are in late December hopefully we will hear something soon. Kinda quite though...

No patch, no response from the devs. Looks like this game is abandoned.

"Cranks & Goggles

We thought we better restart this quest in "easy" by making something that at least we know a little better (Actually we should have started from tutorials, but anyways). Ugur had an an idea about a racing game that takes place in 20's with customizable cars presented in very minimalistic artwork style. He sketched some artworks and we loved it. We had played so many racing games together, one of us was was an amateur race car driver in real life, things should have come easy.

Aydincan learned Unity and Ugur learned SketchUp. Ugur designed all of the models and levels inside SketchUp, Aydincan put them into use inside Unity. We hired a freelance developer and started building it.

Then it took almost 3 years to publish or at least come out with something publish-able. Finished game turned out to be as exactly as we wanted it; funny, difficult and aesthetically good looking and also, not so as we wanted it to be; crashing, buggy and unpolished, because of the things that our beyond our control. We tried to fix it but our freelance development strategy not worked so well. Eventually, we decided to stop further developments of C&G.

"Cranks & Goggles" ladies and gents, is the first racing game that takes place in 20's, in the history racing games that no one really cares about. We see it as a tribute to world of motorsports. It's difficult, sometimes frustrating, it needs its players real driving effort. That's why some people love it and some people hate. We do understand both sides.

After almost 2 years, we are still proud of our selves. We've produced a one of a kind racing game without any prior knowledge about how to make a video game."

Oh so we paid for an unfinished, unfinishable turd. The worst bit for me is the fixed viewpoint. In some directions it means you have no idea of where the corners are. Why with a 3d environment did they not at least have a follow cam.

Hi, calling C&G "a turd" is a bit harsh in my own humble opinion. However, i get your frustration.

The thing is; the game is not "unfinished". For almost like all other games in the world "it could have been better". All of the decisions about the game play is deliberate, camera angle, car controls etc. You may hate it, i understand that too.

The only thing we regret is that it is crashing on some machines (not on all of them).

That's why from now on, we're asking less than half the original price, forever.

As much as I've been a fan and supporter, I'm not disappointed so much with a lack of taking it further, BUT, I havent been able to play the game with out it fatally crashing for over a year, every time I play, and usually in the first race (which is odd because when i originally bought the game it was playabe, and otherwise, the game hasnt significantly changed). Its disappointing because the game actually has alot of repeatability, if I could get it to work.

The 'we are proud' statement of finality (and the 'we're moving on tone of it), while the game is unplayable for a significant amount of the people that bought and supported the game, is bad business.

I liked your early communication, and I liked your ideas and art style I'm sorry to say, i can neither give you a positive review, nor recommend your future products in good faith, until the crash issue is resolved.

If and when that happens, I would be a fervent supporter.

Not much of a consolation to those of us who bought it on release.

The game has plenty of potential. If you've given up, why not open source the code and let the community fix it?

Hey rocket_powered, Ving, DarkAngel and fellow C&G community,

After being silent for a very, very long time, we're finally back. And we're back with some good news.

But first of all, we owe you a BIG apology: We are truly deeply sorry for leaving you with a buggy game and for not giving enough feedback about ongoing situations. We knew it was not acceptable at all, but we felt helpless. Reading through older comments, we might have underestimated how supportive you can be.

Back to good news. Meantime we've been searching for new developers... Who can take the game from where we left and make it work. The reason why we never talked about this is that, we didn't want to make any more promise that we could not keep. So we needed to be certain.

Right now, we're working with a new team that we trust and we already made the game "crash-less". Still need more testing but it looks good so far (you're always welcome for a closed beta). The rest of the work is mostly fighting the newly occurred bugs after tearing the game apart to find the game-crashing one. Also, every single Unity update has caused series of troubles that we need to resolve.

Next step: Releasing a solid build. Then, we'll start working on improvements regarding your feedbacks. But please bear in mind that we've been using a highly sophisticated car physics system which has been developed bu another developer, so there is a limit on what we can do with it. We'll be mostly tweaking camera angles, AI settings and hopefully adding little more content.

Cheers,

PS: Sorry for english level, we're not native speakers as you might already know.

Looks like they did it! :cozytf2mug:

Well, with the extremely tiny portion of money get from the IndieGala bundle sales let's hope you can put in the extra time to make this game into something people will want to play with game modes that make sense like local multiplayer on one screen so 4 friends can race each other using controllers with the pc hooked up to a nice HDTV. If you make this happen maybe you can publish on xbox and playstation to get more money and make the game even better leading to Cranks and Goggles 2!

So does this game actually work now?
Aydincan  [developer] Apr 30 @ 2:24pm
Yep
Ving Apr 30 @ 7:25pm
Works for me now
