Whirligig

FYI: No audio following 'Meta Quest Link update' - cured?
FYI:

Problem:
On loading Oculus for my Rift S just now I got the 'Meta Quest Link driver update' demand. Did so.
Following this, no audio on Whirligig movie playback, on any of the movies that played fine beforehand. (Audio setting in Windows is for 'Headphones: 100%', a is set to stereo in Whirligig.)
Audio is fine on Oculus interface and on other Oculus apps. Also works on (the ghastly) 'Skybox' media player.
Tried uninstalling Whirligig, renaming AppData folder (https://steamcommunity.com/app/451650/discussions/0/154642901285181817/), and reinstalling, no change.
Tried restarting Windows, no difference.
This issue appeared to affect only Whirligig.

'Solution':
Installed 'VR Media Viewer'. (Horrible. Waste of money.)
Tried Whirligig again... Audio restored.

Hi

Thanks for reporting this. It sounds like a very weird error. Out of interest what video path were you using or did it fail in all?

I've recently discovered a weird error in the VLC plugin which will incorrectly set the output module to something other that Wave Out which causes sound to fail. I've found a fix which will be in the next beta which I'll be releasing soon.

The issue I mention above was something I came across but video playback in general is a dark art. There are so many things that can go wrong outside of the player that it's often difficult to fix or even know what the issue was. Glad you found a fix. Hopefully the next version won't have this problem as well.

All the best

Phil
