Linux is coming soon!
Hi all! Despite the Linux tag disappearing, it's still in the plan and is currently being worked on.

We apologize for the confusion, but are dedicated to getting it done. Sorry it got messy, and thanks for sticking with us!

Curious as an informal poll - would Linux users prefer a sort of "beta" to help us test it, or would you prefer we wait till it's rock solid to push live? Thanks for the input.

I would prefer a beta so long as there is some nice way to report bugs and error messages. If the game would also output a log somewhere that'd be even more helpful when reporting bugs.

Also thanks for letting us know that Linux wasn't just cancelled but delayed. I purchased it for linux version.

I'd purchase and help beta test, if one were available.

Thanks for sharing! I was trying to figure out how this game got on my wishlist in the first place, after the released email from Steam. I'd beta test if I got a copy of the game, but I have too many games to play to justify paying to beta test, sorry! I'll be looking forward to buying the game when you get all the kinks worked out.

Thanks for making things clear. Looking forward to the release.

Really great to hear!

For me personally, I'd like to buy the full game - but I think, a beta version before release is always a nice thing to iron out potential flaws. The Linux community is very helpful and rewarding in these things... :-)

Great, thanks for letting us know. i had this game in my wishlist and got a mail from Steam that it was released now, however when i checked it out, there was no SteamOS icon anymore. Got me confused for a second there.

If you want beta testers, i'm sure there are a more then enough people who will want to do that.

I pre-ordered on GoG but if you can give me access here I'd be more than happy to assist with beta testing :)

I can test on SteamOS and desktop for you too.

And, thanks for the official update - I've no intention of cancelling my pre-order now I know you're committed to getting it working :)
Thank you very much for keeping us informed and even more importantly, bringing the title to Linux! I backed the title on Kickstarter thanks to your openness for Linux (and stretch goals accomplished) and Linux support is a major contributing factor in the titles I back / purchase.

I believe that offering the Beta could provide many advantages and the best course of action. Assuming that you're going to need to test the Linux port anyway, making it available to the community will have several benefits. Linux users ae often happy to asssist in testing, especially for their platform, and a wider testing base will mean more distros, hardware, and other compatibility factors tested. In addition, it could be more efficient for your studio to allow some of the community to help the QA process. Players will appreciate the gesture as well, being able too enjoy the game even in a "beta" porting state, which will move some additional sales - especially from the "No Tux no bux" crowd who do not purchase any Linux title until there is playable client available(beta or otherwise).

You may already know of this, but if/when the Linux beta arrives (and for that reason, the final) it may be worthwhile to ensure that Linux gaming centric sites especially , as well as Phoronix, and the /r/linux_gaming subreddit are aware of it - they respond very favorably to developers showing interest and will likely bring testers and purchases alike, showcasing Battle Chasers: Nightware on their prominent sites.

Thanks again and looking forward to the Linux client!

I must admit I'm a little disappointed from the lack of communication about the delay of the linux version, anyway +1 for a beta. It would be useful not only to help you guys but even for the Mesa developers, so they can test it with the open source driver and may address any bug that could eventually arise.

[EDIT] Just a heads up: if the game contains an automated benchmark mode you should consider getting in touch with Michael of The phoronix test suite is a great tool for hardware validation and having Michael benchmark the game is a very good showcase for the linux crowd.

Ok cool, I'll discuss the beta option with our publisher. To be specific, this will be an informal beta in the sense that it'll be the full game, but potentially imperfect pending feedback from the Linux community.

Hope to update you guys in the next few days. Thanks again for the input.

beta for me too.
Thanks strangelove, I definitely preordered with playing on Linux in mind and would take the fastest means to a running (even if imperfect 'beta') game.

Thanks for the confirmation, that you're still bringing it to linux.
I must say; I was hyped to get the game, and was a bit dissapointed to see the linux support vanish on launch day. I'll be patient, and wait for a full release.

Beta is more than fine with me. I'll be happy to just be able to play it...
