Cant run on windows 8?

Whenever I try to run any of the 3 games on windows 8 it just crashes and the left half of the screen goes black. This happens when I change the settings or try to start a new game. I never had this problem with my old pc which was complete crap compaired to this one.

Soultion: Get a real OS like i dont know, Windows 7. Not a OS designed for a tablet...

If you don't actually have an answer don't reply....windows 8 is fine and no reason many games should break with it.

Anyway OP, in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. folder there should be a DirectX installer. Try installing that and then running the game again. If that doesn't work check to make sure you have the latest GPU drivers installed for your device. I've been running the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games just fine under Windows 8 so there should be no reason you can't get them working on your rig.

That looks like a promising lead. Try what Mutsi linked to. Also, did you try reinstalling the DirectX that came with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. like I mentioned?

By the way, try to ignore the unhelpful posts. I know it can be enraging when you're trying to get a problem solved, but moderation is terrible on these forums. You can report these posts but the mods would only see the report if they actually visit this forum. And I haven't really seen any moderation at all here in this subforum. I had to voice my concerns directly to Valve to have a post in this subforum addressed. So the problem is then you make a post like you just did, which is in violation of the forum rules. Then the moderators eventually get around to this forum and see these other posts, then your post. They don't make this distinction that you're looking for help and you've received little of it and in fact mostly the opposite, which is maddening to someone looking to get a game working, and then you're punished for becoming even more frustrated.

My suggestion is for you to either edit or delete entirely your last post. I'm here to try to help and it looks like Trusty Mutsi is, too. You can ignore anyone that comes in here with responses like most of what you've received so far. Sorry you've been so frustrated, but like I said...the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games work just fine for me on Windows 8. Just as well as they did on 7, in fact. You'll have it working in no time. If Trusty Mutsi's suggestions don't work we can keep trying more possible solutions.

This happened to me the first time I tried to change the resolution. After that, the game worked perfectly under Win 8.

I don`t know if you still got this problem, but i got near identical trouble, which drove me crazy for days. <to make it short: i jaust disbled steam overlay in Win 8... and guess what? That friggin` game startet for the first time AND let me set all options in the menue AND start new game without crashing.

Glad to hear you got it resolved. I wonder why the Steam overlay is causing you problems, though. I have it enabled for all my S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and don't have that problem.
