Path restrictions.
Why is it the player is locked down a path for moving but enemies aren't? Like, this game becomes a bit of a bullet hell and it becomes harder to dodge.

That is by design. I think the game being a bullet hell with difficulty to dodge is precisely the point.

Yeah sure but, that becomes a bit of an issue where you're being attack from all sides and are forced down one path, not to mention freezing.

This is not a game where you are supposed to dodge every single missile. It is designed that you can take a hit. That's why you got abilities to recover health and whatnot.

It is not supposed to be easy. Sometimes the situation gets tough and intense because you are stuck in one path as you say, and have to fight crown control elements too.

But if there was no such situation then the game would not be challenging now would it? It would just be a walk in the park where you effortlessly kill everyone and watch your character become unstoppable, without any risk taken.

Seems like the remove CC potion is mandatory, thanks for the comment.

Not mandatory I would say, as I completed the game without. But it is helpful.

I have vague memory of wearing fire boots so that I could never be frozen or something like that, but I could be wrong as it's been a long time since I played the game

there are some cards that will allow you to jump out of dangerous spot (or into the fry if you prefer). Leap of Faith for Rogue, something for other classes too. you have to use crowd control cards (fear, stun etc) to make sure they're not swarming you from all directions. or if you're ranged user then snipe them from afar and don't rush into crowded areas, take your time. then it will be much easier.
protective cards like boots and one that removes neg effects are useful. you can have 2 decks and swap it with G, try to have one for assault and 2d for survival.

Didn't know you can have 2 decks , that's useful thank you.

You can also hot swap the cards iirc. If you open both the inventory and another screen the time stops

That's correct, although it doesn't stop completely but it slows down *a lot*. You can also use item (red) cards straight from the inventory. Time starts running when you do though. That way you don't have to equip Town Portal to use it or Mana Potion to use it from time to time between fights.

Thanks for the reply.
Game is fun, good to know I can open up the menu and use potions.

Thanks for the thread, @Soapwater; it's reminded me how brilliant BoD is and that I haven't played it in far too long, must find a round tuit (do you have any spare?).

I'm struggling to figure this out too with ~2 hours playtime.

It feels like a generic isometric ARPG with restrictions to movement freedom, but I don't get the purpose of those restrictions.

Nothing in this game is designed around this on-rails movement. You could remove that restriction and the only thing that would change is the difficulty of evading projectiles. You could put a diablo game on rails (and increase melee range) and you will get this game. This restriction feels disconnected from the rest of the game.

If there's something in later game that does benefit from the rails, do let me know.

Rails movement streamlines and affects all of the gameplay, every card was planned and balanced around it. With movement happening in one dimension you can have more complex spell combos without hiking the difficulty.
