Playing on Normal, How to Get Legendary Subs?
Just wondering what some of the easiest ways to get legendary sub systems are.
Non-Xlothlian, so not the systems bosses always drop.
I have the mission where I need to fuse 3 together in a laboratory.

Legendary items have 0.1% chance to drop anywhere.

Or you can "fuse" yours modules in the Research Station. Just put 3-5 of the same module and research them.

Chance to get better item!! I like to 100% chance always! So . .

3 modules = 60% to get better item
4 modules = 80% to get better item
5 modules = 100% to get better item

5 petty = 1 common
5 common = 1 uncommon
5 uncommon = 1 rare
5 rare = 1 exeptional
5 exeptional = 1 exotic
5 exotic = 1 Legendary
3 Legendary = will be your mission!

Good lucky!! :winter2019happyyul:

Okay! Thank you very much!
I think going for the fusion thing would be best for me.
I've hoarded all my yellows.

Thanks for explaining the % probability thing. I'd have began wondering about it.

If I put in 5 of same rarity, but different types, is the result random? (Like, if I had market research + turret + shield + sensor + hyperjump subsystems being fused.)
Do their values matter? So if I put in 4 cheaps and 1 normal price, am I likely to end up with a cheap higher tier subsystem?
If you know.

Values are random and if you put 5 diff modules, tue game will chose between them to create a new module!

Okay, that's good to know. Thanks!

Mild mechanic spoiler.

Just wanted to add its a equal % chance per item so if you put in 4 rare shields and 1 exceptional, you have a 80% chance to get a exceptional, and a 20% chance to get a exotic i wont lie i cant remember the math on if this was worth it but its a good example.

To get the most items you use 3 items, ideally all the same type, this is because even when you fail you get a copy of the same rarity back, so every 3 failed combinations you get a "free" extra try. (you get a bit over 10% more upgrades using this method, but is a bigger gamble)

Also each sub system has variations and a reroll can swap to any of these variations, so if you put 3 +150 cargo's together, it can still turn into a +20% cargo. (the better cargo system)

I typically let 8-900 items accumulate, then go to a research station (not the rift ones), there's an option in there to mark things as trash, I mark everything blue (rare?) and below as trash, and then I let the auto-research thing work its magic.

Optimally (??) before doing that I've also done a refit of a ship or two, so I've cherry-picked all the good turrets before throwing them into the blender with the rest of the garbage. :D

In a typical game I'll do this once before crossing the barrier and deep into the xanion zone (i.e. as close to the barrier as I can get so that turret tech levels are as high as possible). And then I'll unlock avorion before needing to do it again.

The storyline artifact you have to get (one of eight) and which is unlocked through research is usually the last or one of the last ones I get.

Can confirm that Auto Research is pretty much the best way to get to Legendary modules efficiently, though it requires a ton of them. Rickcarson's method is similar to mine, and it works.
i've noticed an uptick in my legendary droprate (insane dif) by blowing up enemy sectors, one station normally drops a legendary.
