Modular Turrets !
Bored about an hour ago looking thru my games and thought i will take a loot at the turret designer in Avorion.

Honestly im impressed .....but..... why would i want to make a huge bulky nice looking turret if it dont add anything stat wise.

Then an idea came to me Modular Turrets now that would be cool let me explain why i would love to see this.

1. I have my ship with the starter Turrets on it i want to upgrade my turrets.

2. I get some Base's, Bodys and Barrels from Equipment dock's' Looting kills/wrecks or by makeing them at a turret factory.

3. I enter build mode place a turret building block then open turret design then have to choose from my Inventory a base, body and a barrel.

4. Now i can design my Turret ( just like normal)

The cool thing tho would be if each part of the turrets parts had Random modifiers of of varying amounts and types... but each part has a fixed set of modifiers it will use. + some have some uncommon modifiers or rare.

Just an exsample of what i mean but please dont start saying how some stats are in the wrong place this is just an exsample thanks.

Base= Main Stats= Stability (Recoil), Rotation (X,Z Axis).Minor Stats = Accuracy, HP Boost.

Body = Main Stats = Power, Fire Rate, Rotation(Y Axis).Minor Stats = Recoil, Energy Drain.

Barrel = Main Stats = Damage Type(eg.Laser, Rocket, Chain Gun...) Accuracy....Minor Stats = Power, Heat.


Now put is some random Uncomon, Rare and Elite Modifiers on some parts like ..Fixed, Multi Barrel, Guided, Burst, No Heat, No Energy Drain, Scatter Shot... and so on and so on.

We could make some epic weapons and even use the turret factory to mass produce them costing Goods and money to make them just like normal. Again if you have read this its all just an exsample Thanks.

Edit ...Oh and with Turret size we should be able to scale turrets and have there stats scale too... and make the negitive side to this be Mass and Recoil.... will stop tiny ships from haveing guns way to big.

No matter what they would need to have some form of increaseing returns for mass and like i said Recoil for turrets.

This could be done by.
1. Saying something like if the turrets mass is more then 5% of the Ships Total mass it produces on fireing recoil (Force applied to your ship moving jolting it out of possition). This effect could be increasing exponentially on your ship the bigger the turrets mass is to the ships mass.

2. Same effect as number 1's exsample could be applied to energy drain, heat, and maneuverability.

Changeing the barrels lengh could have an effect on range, accuracy, .... The width could effect caliber (damage per hit)........Bodys size could effect Rotation, Fire rate, power drain...and so on.

This could allow you to manage your turrets stats based on the size of each part but at the same time not allow you to build a massive turret on a small ship.

think of a small ship with a turret the same size as it... 1 shot will send it flying spining due to the recoil.

I want a High Damage (Short Wide Barrel), High Fire Rate (Large Body) weapon.
but i have to sacrifce Barrels lengh (accuracy)....Large Body (rotation) and Small Base (stability).

For me, anything that reduces relying on drops is a plus. I want to be able to churn out standardised corvettes and stuff.

So I'd support replacing "turrets" by "turret-upgrades" that can be added to a turret to improve it, but aren't necessary to make it work. For example, a bigger base could increase the number of upgrade-slots for that turret, while a bigger/longer barrel (sorry, haven't played with customisable turrets yet) could increase accuracy and/or range.

Would Love to see this done so much.... could not sleep last night thinking about how this could be done.

Within the last week or so I actually posted a suggestion to the Suggestions forum specific to reducing reliance on random drops in regards for upgrades.

With this turret idea, the concept could be transferred as well. With turret sections being researched and developed based on the players needs.

In the suggestions page, look for "Components - Research and Development" on July 8th by me. It hasn't gotten any responses yet and I am not the bumping kind.

Also op, no intention to derail your idea. Maybe, even, connect yours and mine?

I would, but I'm using my phone and I don't have a way of getting the exact link from it. Not that I can find, any way.
