I cannot recommend this game for a couple of reasons...

Unrealistic AI Behavior: The AI-controlled cars in "GRID 2" behave as if they weigh ten tons (literally), making overtaking more like a demolition derby than a high-speed race. Their erratic braking and aggressive driving tactics frequently ruin the race's flow and make achieving first place a frustrating ordeal.

Incessant and Unhelpful Commentary: The team manager bombards you with a barrage of obvious and sometimes irrelevant commentary throughout the races. This becomes quickly grating, adding to the game's overall annoyance.

Scripted Race Dynamics: The game feels heavily scripted, particularly in how it handles drifting. It appears that races are designed around very specific maneuvers. If you don’t drift exactly as intended on certain corners, winning becomes unnecessarily difficult, stripping away the joy of natural racing skills and strategy. Also if you have a certain distance for 1st place, whether its during the beginning or nearing the end of race, you will not reach it.

Monotony in Races and Vehicle Handling: There is an overwhelming sense of repetition in the race formats and the handling of different cars, which all seem to blur into one. The lack of variety and nuance in car performance and race design means that the game quickly loses its replay value.

Repetitive Gameplay: Each event feels just like the last. Despite the visually appealing environments, the core racing experience remains stagnant, with little evolution in gameplay to keep the experience fresh or engaging over time.

Its alright, but not more that. The races are fun but can feel slightly repetitive, like every event feels similar to the last. The AI is a bad, but that is a Grid standard, we are used to that. The map design and car choices are good though and it is a racing title that requires almost nothing, so you can run it on any system pretty much.

GRID 2 is a fine simcade racer. I prefer the handling to the first game, and the piss filter is gone. However, the campaign is streamlined substantially, and if you prefer this or not is down to personal preference. From reading other opinions on this game for the last decade and a half, the hivemind verdict seems to prefer the GRID 1 career, but there is something to be said for just focusing on the racing. Sadly the game is delisted from Steam, but it's surprisingly cheap on "alternative" websites. The rest of this review is technical stuff, not related to the game itself:

This is an old game, and here's something cool: thanks to Valve, it runs better on Linux now than it does on Windows. On Linux it runs fine with Proton, no messing about, but on Windows you need to do some tweaking if you don't want it to crash every 30 minutes or so. The built-in frame limiter doesn't work on Windows anymore, which leaves you stuck with vsync or your graphics drivers as the only alternative, but it does function perfectly on Linux.

Also lol at being sponsored by Intel integrated graphics, with some graphical options locked off if you have a dedicated GPU. There's no way that Intel iGPUs ran this at anything higher than medium 30fps.
