Here is to hoping they give it to original owners for free. I just checked and the game has been out for barely over a year and they are doing this.

In the developer's own words:
as a thank you to our loyal fans, we’re excited to announce that ALL owners of Hero Generations on Steam will receive an additional 67% off coupon for our new game in the series, Hero Generations: ReGen!

Yep, as a kickstarter backer we just got an update telling us that we can get 67% off also..
Like, seriously? If this was a sequel that that would be fine, but a patched re-release of the original that had some issues which are presumably now fixed and they are charging us?
that 67% better mean it's a dollar for us original owners

Hi everyone, yes existing owners of HG1 (prior to the release of ReGen) will get a 67% coupon added to their account sometime soon. The full price is $14.99, so with the coupon the price for you would be $4.94. I've tried to answer the "What's New/Different?" question in this post with a giant list of changes: http://steamcommunity.com/app/443260/discussions/0/360672383117170458/

Thanks again for all the support of the first game, and I hope you give ReGen a shot too.

I've played the first version a little bit and the game really have something uniq an fun but it feel like unfinished game (rough edges). I've take a look at the "giant" list of changes of the new version and a think a lots of those changes should have been in first release.

Anyway, I don't think I'm gonna pay again for the (almost) same game.

I see the coupon, but there are some issues with the dates in that the coupon is set to expire around the same time/date the game is released August 19th, I mean couldn't the expiration date for the coupon be extended? I don't understand why the expiration date was set for the same day as the release, typically you would at least get a couple of weeks to decide. Additionally, even if you wanted to purchase the game today, there is no way to buy or use the coupon, as the game unlocks on the 19th -- here is a screenshot of what I am referring to: http://imgur.com/a/YPWTr

Usually I like to defend capitalism and developers but this does seem a bit much, especially given CipherHawk's point about when the cupon expires.

Besides fixes and better peformance and a couple events, what is new (yes, I looked at the link)?

Regarding the coupon expiration, that shouldn't be the case. It should be valid for 1 year. Looks like Valve may have made a mistake. I'll get on that ASAP.

Just wanted to point out for people that might be reading this now that the coupon issue has been resolved.

Also this is not just a minor update and cosmetic refresh to an old game. This is a complete re-write of the game in Unity which allows for a much more expansive and seamless game.

Now the entire world will be visible from edge to edge and there is no loading between maps since it is all one giant map.
