GFWL Removal and More of Your Frequently Asked Questions Answered
UPDATE 01/04/2015

Hi all,

First up I want to say sorry for just how long it has taken to move DiRT 3 to Steamworks and I would also like to thank you all for keeping up the pressure on us to move it over. Every day I have over a hundred notifications on my Steam account, there are threads thousands of comments deep about it and countless Tweets and Facebook messages - while you’d think it would be the kind of thing that would bug the hell out of me, you’d be wrong.

It just goes to show that you guys love DiRT and care about it a lot; I’m hoping you’ll bring that passion with you for where we’re going next...

...Anyway before I get into trouble, I’m pleased to announce that DiRT 3 is now available with 100% less Games for Windows Live.

Store Page Link

As a thank you for your patience over this last year we’ll be upgrading everybody who owns DiRT 3 to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition, which will include all of our DLC for no extra cost.

If you currently have the GFWL version of DiRT 3 in your Steam Library you should now also have access to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition which should already be there in your list of owned games. To play it simply select it from your library and click install. (Give it some time to show up if you are checking this right after posting)

However if you own a boxed PC copy of DiRT 3 or have a Games For Window Live CD Key you can now activate that CD key on Steam.

To do so simply follow the below steps:
  • Load up your Steam Client
  • Click “Add a game” found in the bottom left of the window
  • Click “Activate a product on Steam”
  • Click “Next”
  • Follow the instructions and when asked enter your CD Key into the “Product Code” box (be sure to use CAPS and include the hyphens)
  • Hit “Next”
  • Your code will then be verified and the DiRT 3 Complete Edition will be added to your library
  • And you’re good to go!
Those who originally purchased the game via Steam will notice that the now old GFWL version of DiRT 3 will still be in your library. You will still be able to play this version but it will still include Games for Windows Live and you won’t have access to the Complete Edition content in the old version – nothing will have changed with that older version.

Due to the differences with the two versions unfortunately your save files will not be compatible with each other. We know it sucks and we are sorry but it was unavoidable.

As an added bonus if you also happen to own a Mac you will now have access to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition via Steam on that too.

And of-course we’ve also included a set of Steam Trading cards for you to collect and added all of the original DiRT 3 achievements.

Finally thank you again for sticking with us and a big thank you to the rather awesome people at Feral Interactive who helped us with the work.

Keep it lit.

If it's not showing for you just give it a while to show up - To those asking I can confirm you will all get the Complete Edition if you already own a version of DiRT 3 with GFWL

... And no it's not an April Fools ;)

Anybody having issues connecting PS4 controller to play with this game?? Can you give a solution if so. Thanks for the help, I just want to enjoy this game again with the ease of a controller.

Use DS4 Windows, is an excellent program that emulate XBOX 360 controller for PS4, it's very easy to install and play, search in google, there are many tutos around the web.

Hey Codemasters! I bought this game because of this thread. Are you lying to the world? or what? You think we are blind?

PLEASE get this as you promised because you are cheating your customers and eventually you will have none and (If you are really this ignorant) hopefully your company will bankrupt.

If this is not honored by you guys I will boycott you. I doubt I am the only customer you have that feels this way.

Don't make promises you don't keep! GrrrRRRrrrrrrrrrr.

This is a joke right? lol
You're going to boycott a 4 - 5 year old game, that has already made it's development money back + lot's more?

I guess you didn't read the updated news either.

"---Update 13/01/15 ---

Hi all, I know this is taking a long time and I can only apologise for the... Well let's call it what it is, massive delay. I know it seems like I've not been coming by but I can assure you I have and I want to thank you for continuing to put the pressure on us both here and on Twitter to get it sorted.

Now I still don't have a date I'm willing to give you just in case it bumps for some unknown reason but I can tell you it will be very soon and the next time I update the first post in the thread it'll be to tell you it's available.

I can however tell you that we'll be upgrading you all to the Complete Edition free of charge, we'll be adding Steam Trading cards and if you also happen to own a mac we'll be making the mac edition of DiRT 3 available to you as well. If you own a boxed copy dig out your CD key and keep it safe as you'll need that to redeem your Steamworks copy when the update goes live.

Again, apologies about the delay but we're almost there."

I was about to reinstall this today, luckily I had the presence of mind to check the disussions first. GWFL was such a huge pita in this game, hope the patch comes soon!

Got the feeling it could be today, or in the next few days for PC :) The Mac release is great news.
Phyrstarter Jan 29, 2015 @ 9:55am
I am excited to get the complete version (that does come with all DLC right??). But I mean. Since I actually have it working, I really don't care about GFWL at the moment. I'll be very happy when it's removed and I can actually keep my save files on my machine (plus trading cards will be a plus).

Let's just hope it doesn't take another year to get it..

Ok, we had that last update, but it's been said we are very close to the patch ("but I can tell you it will be very soon"). We are hungry for news. Any updates since then? What about that Mac vs PC multiplayer? *wondering on useless questions...*

*awaiting official response*

should be simple steamworks integration (steamplay) which allows mac/linux/windows to play together. Nothing fancy or new lol
