GFWL Removal and More of Your Frequently Asked Questions Answered
UPDATE 01/04/2015

Hi all,

First up I want to say sorry for just how long it has taken to move DiRT 3 to Steamworks and I would also like to thank you all for keeping up the pressure on us to move it over. Every day I have over a hundred notifications on my Steam account, there are threads thousands of comments deep about it and countless Tweets and Facebook messages - while you’d think it would be the kind of thing that would bug the hell out of me, you’d be wrong.

It just goes to show that you guys love DiRT and care about it a lot; I’m hoping you’ll bring that passion with you for where we’re going next...

...Anyway before I get into trouble, I’m pleased to announce that DiRT 3 is now available with 100% less Games for Windows Live.

Store Page Link

As a thank you for your patience over this last year we’ll be upgrading everybody who owns DiRT 3 to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition, which will include all of our DLC for no extra cost.

If you currently have the GFWL version of DiRT 3 in your Steam Library you should now also have access to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition which should already be there in your list of owned games. To play it simply select it from your library and click install. (Give it some time to show up if you are checking this right after posting)

However if you own a boxed PC copy of DiRT 3 or have a Games For Window Live CD Key you can now activate that CD key on Steam.

To do so simply follow the below steps:
  • Load up your Steam Client
  • Click “Add a game” found in the bottom left of the window
  • Click “Activate a product on Steam”
  • Click “Next”
  • Follow the instructions and when asked enter your CD Key into the “Product Code” box (be sure to use CAPS and include the hyphens)
  • Hit “Next”
  • Your code will then be verified and the DiRT 3 Complete Edition will be added to your library
  • And you’re good to go!
Those who originally purchased the game via Steam will notice that the now old GFWL version of DiRT 3 will still be in your library. You will still be able to play this version but it will still include Games for Windows Live and you won’t have access to the Complete Edition content in the old version – nothing will have changed with that older version.

Due to the differences with the two versions unfortunately your save files will not be compatible with each other. We know it sucks and we are sorry but it was unavoidable.

As an added bonus if you also happen to own a Mac you will now have access to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition via Steam on that too.

And of-course we’ve also included a set of Steam Trading cards for you to collect and added all of the original DiRT 3 achievements.

Finally thank you again for sticking with us and a big thank you to the rather awesome people at Feral Interactive who helped us with the work.

Keep it lit.

UPDATE:

If it's not showing for you just give it a while to show up - To those asking I can confirm you will all get the Complete Edition if you already own a version of DiRT 3 with GFWL

... And no it's not an April Fools ;)

I love the game. I installed it from my dvd and also installed GFWL.
But Iam sad that i cant download my DLC right now, because GFWL is down since last year.
How do I get the DLC or where can I download the content?
thx for your answer.
Greetings Bastor

Short answer is you can't. My GFWL still allows me to log in but that isn't the problem. It the GFWL Marketplace which does not exist anymore of which you normally would have bought/redownloaded your previous DLC. It's now gone

There is no way of buying any DLC and there is no way of downloading any previously bought DLC.

We can only hope that if and when Dirt3 has extricated itself from the GFWL and MS parasitic horror and re-presents itself as a clean workable entity on Steam then only we may have the options to buy DLC or redownload something we have already paid for... as happy customers instead of the frustrated, apalled and disgusted CM customers we already are at the hands of this once great company...

If you see this as a terrible criminal practice then yes I do too and I'm not alone either. let's just hope someone at CM realises this too... Have a nice day.

It's a pity that the last good game made by CM, without any BS attached, was the Dizzy Egg series ;)

Like you are removing GFWL some people might be disappointed so what I would do is make it free for the XBL owners to download to their consoles aswell on Steam. Anyone agree?

As far as I know you can't buy new content. But you can still download the already purchased content via the Games for Windows Live Client. For eg. I was able to download the free 5 car pack DLC recently.

It also says so in the xbox live FAQ:

Thanks Aergistal.

My problem was I had an error connecting to the GFWL marketplace and was given a message as such. I decided to reinstall the GFWL software and I then amazingly could connect to my account and the software opened and listed my past purchases.

I did manage to DL my Monte Carlo Track Pack - see here:

http://tinypic.com/r/2luumw2/8

I then checked if I could access the tracks in-game and I could.

Straight away I decided to dl all my other purchased DLC via the GFWL Marketplace and seem to (for now) unable to download anything else. See here:

http://tinypic.com/r/1zfoh8x/8

I'll try again later as the message suggests.

Thanks for your post prompting me to reinstall the GFWL Marketplace software :-)

JUST a few minutes after my I above post I tried again and found I could DL ALL my prebought DLC. See here:

All this after uninstalling the version that came with my GFWL games (I guess) and installing afresh. Thanks Aergista :-)

Yes very helpful. Can't we just keep on topic as some of us are getting somewhere with our plight?

Just download and install the latest version of GFWL client from here:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/downloadclient

Launch it directly from Windows and login with the account you use for Dirt 3. After you download the DLC it should be visible in the game (download works only if you purchased it before the GFW Marketplace shutdown)

edit: if the new GFWL doesn't accept your *valid* account try the stupid workaround in my post here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/44320/discussions/0/558746745592088289/?tscn=1391255916

Hello!
I am Russian, and do not really understand English, but may have a way to install free DLC for Dirt 3?
And the question about GFWL when it will be removed?

P.S. translation Google Trabslate

Even though I have to open Dirt through Steam I cannot connect to the community from the game anymore. Last date it worked was 2/20
