Rapid fire patching...
I don't mean no disrespect but SAM has been out 4 days and has had... What, almost 36 patches already? It's just showing me I shouldn't play until it's been at least 48 hours since the last patch.

I pre-ordered the game. I played ASM back when it first came out, before the update that made the hacking mini-game mind numbingly easy. I've supported Vagabond Dogs from the get go but all these patches make me wanna sit back and wait and see. I can't be the only one.

Completely reasonable assertion!

We're trying to work as quickly as possible and get all the issues sorted out.
Obviously would have been nice to do that before launch, but such is life as a small team.

I'll make sure to post a big obvious announcement once this phase is done.
Jake and I will want to take a break (at least a few days) after that hits anyway.
After that, we'll be back at it, but this time with new content for repeat playthroughs.

Thanks for staying active in the community.
It's nice having long-time fans still with us.

Also, big laugh about the hacking minigame.
(I lost a fight regarding difficulty on that one)

No worries. I'm honestly happy to see a dev so involved in the community. And it's reassuring to see people's individual issues getting sorted. This just assures me that once everything is sorted SAM will be the game you wanted to deliver and the one I wanted to experience. Keep it up. The wait will be worth it. :winter2019joyfultearsyul:

And don't fret about the hacking mini-game. Apparently a lot of people lost the fight with the original one.

I'll be honest, my feedback isn't worth that much because I didn't play the game. I get what you are saying not only for bug/technical problems(that is something that can be fixed) but for the narrative, I got the “good” end and for what I get (mostly reading the other topics) that's not “in the game”. So for now I will wait to see hown the game develops.
I hope i didn't sound like a ahole

No, it's cool. We've got thick skin.

As I've said in other posts the "perfect ending" people keep going on about is kind of impossible to get in ASM without cheating in some capacity. Having an extra $10,000 to pay Sam's debt and keep your novel is outside the bounds of what the game allows. Though, through save scumming, apparently a lot of people chose that path.

If we'd had better data tracking back in 2014, we'd have known this and been able to better predict how many of you were doing this. So, now we adapt and shift more focus on it to get y'all the story you came for.

We'll keep you posted.

I can see that being a thing especially on Sam's debt but what i think that happens is some people got lucky(or just start doing savescuming) on the cassino or on the boxing club so it makes the “good/perfect” ending sound achievable. In my case i remember a friend saying “Trust on RNGesus or savescum”. And yes is did savescum to get the 10k
Anyway thanks for answering il wait for the update.

I wonder if the fact that all of the "guides" on the Always Sometimes Monsters community hub are for the "perfect" ending contributes to a higher-than-expected number of people achieving that than you anticipated.

Yeah, I think the guides played a huge part in it.

The bigger revelation is just how uncomfortable people were with the natural 'imperfect' endings the game was designed to deliver. It's a big part of the game's intent/design to avoid the fairytale ending, but a certain type of player just can't accept that and thus turned to the guides, save scumming, or other unnatural methods in order to "win" a game that's not about winning.

Watching this unfold is a very good lesson for me as a designer, and a heartbreak for me as an artist.

I have a feeling that alley scene is what prompted people to go for a perfect ending. Seeing your character like that makes you feel like you did something wrong. And that the goal is for you to not end up there while still keeping your book and getting your love

Yeah, probably. The point is then to just sit with that feeling. It's what happened. That's the story.

To be a revisionist, go back, and "cheat" your way to an ending you prefer isn't earnest.

Though, everyone can play how they want.
I'm not here to police how people enjoy things.
In fact, I've got good plans to cater to this type of player.

Even the filthy save scummers deserve satisfaction. 😜😆
The patch will come a bit later than others, but I know what to do.

In the meantime, I really do recommend trying the New Game mode.
Or, importing a "honest" save from ASM and seeing how it works out.

Wow, I didn't realize that the ending to ASM was intentionally super difficult to get a perfect end.
I never personally went after it since there's so much fun crimes to do and an end where my MC gets a wedding just seems so weird to me. I did scum save for the sake of getting formal attire for the wedding though lol

I'm happy to see there are so many patches. It means the game is alive. I already finised the game and was sad it's already finished. I want to be surprised everytime I restart a new game and see things that I didn't experience in my first game.

I would definitely like to see the game expended.

Also if you could make a remake of Always Somtimes Monster with the new graphics, it'd be awesome!

It's definitely doable, but it's a BIG project.
We wouldn't be able to release that kind of thing for free.

Though, if enough people want an "HD Remaster" of ASM, we could consider it.

Here is a point that I will disagree with. Well yes guides probably are the reason a huge number of players got the “perfect” ending but guides showed that can be done. Yes for the majority of players it was by savescuming. Probably but if i am not mistaken you can get lucky on the cassino and make the 10K so there's a way to get the “perfect” ending legitimately even if not intended.
I do remember having a conversation on this and one of my friends said
“Well the game give you the choice of paying the debt with cash there has to be a way to make the money, if not they could just make a choice between Sam or the book”

But in the end this i just my opinion here's hoping that everyone gets the best game
And again i hope i didn't sound like a ♥♥♥♥♥

I get what you're saying.
I'd like to meet the lucky soul who could do it legitimately, though.

Maybe get them to buy me some lotto tickets. 😆
