Blocking forced Redshell spyware leads to crash | Blockieren von Schnüffeldienst führt zu Absturz
[05.08 11:25:11] ConanSandbox.exe *64 - api.redshell.io:443 open
[05.08 11:25:16] ConanSandbox.exe *64 - dl.conanexiles.com:80 open
[05.08 11:25:22] ConanSandbox.exe - dl.conanexiles.com:80 close, 158 bytes sent, 1700 bytes (1.66 KB) received, lifetime 00:05

Some background connections for Conan Exiles which are activated every session
dl.conanexiles is for patchnotes...other stuff is not so nice.

Blocked Redshell spyware leads game to instant crash during the Unreal engine advertising video.
Redshell is an "service" for Marketing attribution & Steam tracking for PC games
Wasn't active before release.

Everyone can test it. Add "0.0.0.0 api.redshell.io" to hosts and start the game.

So far some more
# (Funcom) # [Conan Exiles] # {- Denuvo -} 0.0.0.0 srv01.codefusion.technology 0.0.0.0 srv02.codefusion.technology 0.0.0.0 srv03.codefusion.technology 0.0.0.0 support.codefusion.technology #0.0.0.0 ocsp2.globalsign.com #0.0.0.0 crl.globalsign.com # {- Conansandbox -} 0.0.0.0 dl.conanexiles.com # Patchnotes #0.0.0.0 api.redshell.io # Tracking # {- Ingame help and more tracking -} #0.0.0.0 www.conanexiles.com 0.0.0.0 www.google-analytics.com # UA-73025003-1 0.0.0.0 stats.g.doubleclick.net # UA-73025003-1 0.0.0.0 script.crazyegg.com # Clickcaptor #0.0.0.0 fonts.gstatic.com # fonts 0.0.0.0 gtrk.s3.amazonaws.com 0.0.0.0 95.101.82.74 # Akamai

Other integrated stuff is more crap as useful, even for singleplayer. One half tracking/spy/profiling/advertising stuff, other half is DRM plague and rest is unnecessary.

Beside this ascpect, Funcom EULA is invalid and they have no right to legitimize anything.

The game was thus deleted directly and will be removed from the library if nothing changes asap.

Customers are no cheap ressource or self-service store. Learn it >.<

I followed as well, now I just need to practice my German so that I can understand it all. =)

Also, another developer, Bohemia Interactive, used to use redshell too, but they removed it after customer complaints:

Their claim as to why they used it

* to evaluate if/to what degree some of our marketing campaigns work
* to get data on how the game is played and how it can be improved

two things that can be accomplished by simply ASKING customers rather than having hidden programs running in the background, what else will they start collecting or what other programs will they "add" to find things out?

Especially for Redshell:
Realm Grinder, Total War: WARHAMMER II, Heroine Anthem Zero, Warhammer: Vermintide II, The Onion Knights to name few more examples.

At least, Funcom should give us the option for this matter.

Hey all,

I posted this on the official forums as well, as a few posts were made with references to here.

Sorry for the concern regarding this. We actually intended to disable Red Shell, and we did - but one of the modules was still active, which lead to a crash. We’ll fully disable and remove Red Shell for now, but please understand that we may still continue using analytics services for Conan Exiles in the future.

If you have any questions about Red Shell’s privacy policy, you can read them here: https://redshell.io/privacy-policy

If you have any further concerns, Red Shell offers an opt-out:

Player Opt-Out Provision
If you are a Player, you can opt-out of Red Shell Analytics tracking by emailing us at privacy@redshell.io or by completing the opt out form here[redshell.io].

Sorry again for the concern. Thanks!
