Weird controller bug
I love the game and controller support works perfectly except one thing:

I use an Xbox One controller. If I allow the controller to "time out" (to power off due to inactivity) while playing the game, when I turn the controller back on, it will not control the game.

The only way to get the controller to work again is to shut the game down and re-start the game through steam.

Unfortunately, since saving your game requires coins (a decision I agree with!) this can become troublesome quickly.

Essentially I cannot take a break from the game and walk away and do something else without the controller powering off and me having to use keyboard controls until I reach a save point.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks - and the game is great!

Hello Pyronic,

Thanks for mentioning this issue.

I did not know of such a feature in the Xbox One controller, and unsurpirsingly, the tool used to manage gamepads is not handling as it does not support hot plug / unplug

I will investigate it and try to find a fix. In the meantime, could you please send me the game logs of a game session when this issue occurs ? this could help me find a workaround.

Thanks in advance, glad you love the game ;)

Yes, definitely. I can make it happen on a couple of sessions and send you the logs.

Where are the logs located, and how do I know which ones are the correct ones?

Using Windows 7 over here.

Thanks a lot,

this post tells you all about reporting issues : http://steamcommunity.com/app/440880/discussions/0/412448792352930195/

Beware the logs are resetted at each game sessions.

Ok, just sent it. Let me know if there's anything else I can do!

just fyi, I have a cheap controller with a micro-usb interface, and this type of popular interface commonly disconnects when the wire is lightly pulled
about half of the games on steam manage to reconnect the controller when it powers back up, but the other half surprisingly do not handle it correctly... reconnecting is done with console game systems, so I am not sure why the PC controller libraries do not handle this better..
hope you will consider this for your next game release!

Yes, I modified the engine to try to handle that better, but it's very hacky because not handled natively by the existing libraries, especially libraries that are cross platform.

Hopefully that'll be enough to prevent unwanted disconnect to force the player to exit the game.
