Should I spend $100 on keys for uncrating?
Hey there, everyone. Not too long ago, I transferred the ownership of a ********* game server (censoring name just in case I'm advertising or something. It isn't a Steam game) to a new owner, and he allowed me to keep $100 of donation money for myself on Paypal. I still have these $100 and I've recently become re-obsessed with Team Fortress 2. Should I spend all of this money on TF2 keys? Normally, I would never spend even $10 of my own money on in-game items, but this is a special case where I got $100 for just running a ********* server for a bit. I really want to uncrate at least one unusual and I know that will take a good amount of keys. Should I spend $100 on keys, and if so, what are the chances of me uncrating at least one unusual with these keys?

Online there is a TF2 crate simulator that simulates the chances of getting items from crates. I've used it a couple of times to fun and you should know that most often it takes around $500 to get one unusual.

I suggest looking around to be sure there aren'tany other games you want first, then after that spend money like crazy.

its 1% for opening a crate... for 100 USD you're getting 40 crates.. so your odds are still bad, and I'm not going to draw up the equation for "multiple RNG/ spin the wheel" but off the top my head, you would have about a 7.0247% chance of an unusual. (terrible)

go to java or C++ and put a RNG from 0-99 in 40 times, if you feel confident go ahead and spend your money.

No way, save the money and just BUY an unusual, with that much you can get 2-3 decent ones instead of a bunch of strange jarates.

You should really take a look at the simulator, it really puts things into perspective: http://www.kongregate.com/games/stripedypaper/tf2-crate-sim

You could take your chances on getting one, but it might not be the best unusual

You only get 1 out of how many items are in the crate you would waste a ton of money if you didnt like what you got so no.

I just did a quick run in the crate sim and got an orbiting planets exquisite rack after only $37.50. Maybe your chances aren't so bad after all...

If you think that $100 will get you an unusual, you'd be lucky. Take it from me, I've unboxed 500+ crates now and looking to do another 100+ this hallowe'en. If you think you're going to get one, you'll be disappointed. If you go with the "I have nothing to lose" attitude, you might get surprised... but you might get ♥♥♥♥ all :)

If you want "the game to pick an unusual for you" aka unboxing, do it. It's fun gambling. And it's no big loss. If you want a more specific unusual... buy keys/buds and get the unusual you want. Personally, I prefer seeing what the game wants to give me :) So I unbox.
