TUX?!
I dual booted my Mac OS X lion with Ubuntu, and then ran TF2 with Ubuntu running, but it didn't give me the tux, wtf?!

Pretty sure you need to be running 12.10 for the Tux to unlock, not sure though.

The version does not matter. I got it and I am using Debian Wheezy.

Not sure… Does TF2 start? Maybe try to play 1 or 2 rounds.

point still stands, i should have a tux, since i ran ubuntu before the deadline was over and played TF2 while it was running, and never got a tux.

you have to run tf2 before the deadline, not linux
