Crashing
Whenever I try to load a server, it crashes and comes up with a box that says: 'hl2.exe has stopped responding' this box also comes up and TF2 crashes when I've been playing for a long time. I love TF2 (I have valuable scout hats) but Valve just keeps updating it, which is probably making it crash, instead of fixing glitches and bugs.

It happens to everyone, some more than others. Did you check here for troubleshooting tips?

The problem when loading a server is a common issue. Disabling MOTD in the advanced options fixes it for most people. As for crashing when you have been playing a long time, I'm afraid I can't really help you with that.

Well, that usually happens after 6 or 7 straight hours of gameplay, so I don't worry about that (I have less gaming time because of homework). What is MOTD?

It has something to do with the commercials you get when you enter a server. They can cause crashes. Disabling it will not affect gameplay in any way. Do mind that some servers kick people that have MOTD disabled for people with reserved slots. However from my own experience I can say it doesn't really happen.

And on a side note Valve and server hosts makesmoney of these commercials. I would not disable MOTD if it didn't cause crashes because I respect the fact that Valve makes such a great game f2p and that people host servers. I am willing to watch a commercial every now and than for this. However because I can't join a server with MOTD enabled I have it disabled.

it happens when searching for a server.. ie. click on search for random game. crashes before any servers are found. verified cashe files and even deleted them and reinstalled game. also did the same with steam files. no good . still crashes on find server.

hl2.exe not responding.

will try updating directx drivers and see if that helps.

this happens to me somtimes.
When the box appears, there should be an option for you to wait a few minutes.
Click that and the box should disappear.
That's how I solve it

This Is an Outrage this has been happening to all the valve games for over a week!!!! TF2, Dota, and Garry's mod doesnt work either!!!!
