Geforce GTX280 here
1.Go to the cfg TF2 folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\[your username]\team fortress 2\tf\cfg)
2.Open autoexec.cfg.
3.If there is no autoexec.cfg then right click anywhere in the blank space -> New -> Text Document
4.Open the new text document, click on File, Save As, then at the bottom where it says Save As Type change it to All Files (*.*). For the file name type in autoexec.cfg
6.Copy and paste the follow into the autoexec.cfg file:
alias res_sw "res_low"
alias res_low "mat_setvideomode 1024 768 0; alias res_sw res_normal"
alias res_normal "mat_setvideomode 1280 1024 0; alias res_sw res_low"
bind "o" "res_sw"
Whenever the nvidia driver crashes press the o button to be able to see TF2 again.
I replaced it with EVGA GTX 550 Ti with 3 year warranty. No more problems in Win7 or Linux (both are 64-bit).
Even though it is a video card problem, its actually the sound driver on the motherboard.
Try putting down the quality of your audio in the audio options tab..
Worked for me.
i got a GTX9800
this problem is over 3 years old for me
Its why its necro'd, nvidia keeps working on it and valve doesn't acknowledge it, so the problem just ends up bugging more and more people...
I ve got gtx 260 and updated drivers. Its good to know that valve cares about hats.
