The character limits of the name and description tags should be increased.
Now people in this game are witty and smart when they want to be. The same people always have that one item they love so dearly they personalise it as much as they can, with paint, strange parts etc. But then there comes the name and description a great option given to us but it falls short in the character department.
If you're not aware it's approximatley 40 characters for the name tag and 80 for the description tag.
In my personal opinion that isn't enough characters to get that great a name and description out of without cutting corners.

So I propose Valve increase the character limit to:
60 for the name tag.
150 for the description.

In game items with set names have much longer characters in both their name and description I think it should be fair we get the option to at least have the description characters to be 140 at least. If not for both then at least let our descriptions be 140 characters.

Please share this around because I want this to change, my friends want this to change, and most of all YOU want this to change. Why click and look if you weren't interested?

Feel free to post this towards the higher ups so we can and WILL make this happen.

Thank you!

The font would have to be tiny.

I'd check out the names and descriptions of items already in the game, they have a much larger quantity than we're given but it's mainly descriptions and the font doesn't change. This is possible and should happen if only for the description tag.

You're totally right, a quick Google shows that there is an item with 112 characters as it's default name :

EDIT : Just to play devils advocate, what would you say about this: how long does anyone really see the name for? Unless someone presses F on you when you're still or is viewing you on spec and happens to have that weapon active, your opponent only gets a couple of seconds once you've killed them to see it, and surely that's where it has the biggest effect? I am all for having as many characters as possible though, don't get me wrong.

40 is WAY more than enough for names, even when writing something stupid like: "Player'sname's Rape Train" barely takes more than half of those characters.

And 80 is a fair amount, this shotgun took the total amount, yes I had to edit and alter my original description to make sense as well as fit it, but it still has everything I orginally wanted for a small description, no player needs a HUGE description or name for an item unless they are making a stupid joke about it.

What makes it "Sophisticated?"
That's the only sophisticated item I've ever seen.

And I thought my description was a bit wordy.
I still love the sword, however.

It's a Strange filter from playing Gullywash.

Oh, okay.
You don't really see to many Strange Filters.

Not every player of course but it's a small annoying thing that can be easily done by the developers. The name tag ammount may be fair But the description ammount does need increasing to at least 140, there's a lot of people who would go "oh hey that would be funny i'll make that my item descript-Awww"

This is my fav item, using both nametag and desc. I felt it was perfect, a reference, not too long or short(half assed), speaks about me as a long-time gamer.

Fun Fact: I spent 5 hours researching into Ice-like weather phenemonon, cold scientific things, the coldest places on earth and names of said places, and then didn't use ANY of it. Used a reference from one of my fav video games, no regrets.

80 characters is either a long sentance or 2 decent-sized ones, it's a description, you don't need to write a report on the weapon. And there are plenty of funny things you can do with 80 characters, too many infact. My shotgun one had a sense of "historical reference humor" if you could call it that, and even an actual short-and-sweet description ontop.

https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Strange_Filter Click to expand , can add another word to your Strange for a few rec. Only really worth it if you haven't used a name tag, bearing in mind it would filter your kills on your part/weapon to only counting on that map. Just thought I'd edit to add that last bit.

Ha. A funny thing with weapons that already have descriptions is that it replaces them, so you can do something like /headshot = '+10%'; variable = 'charge'

It's the small things in the community that makes people smile such as these. I was on a random server just playing around and on one player's Medigun the name was "I want a refund this doesn't fiar my lazar just shoots heal beams." It was shorterned down to fit, loosing a few spaces and key letters. Sure it's a nitpick but what valve needs to do now of all things is to acknowledge and give us a cool advantage for ourselves to personalise the game so we'll have more fun.

Even if you're scattergun is named "MLG##PWNNERBS" or something it means that you named it, you liked it even in irony. I personally think these custom names and descriptions are for yourself more than other players and the fact that other people can see it is just a bonus. For how long however is depending on how fast someone can read and if someone cares enough to, like i said it's mainly for the person who named it. But we all know the tred through the mud respawn time can feel like, so it's a little bonus for people who have to wait to play.
