Sudden high ping

I was playing left 4 dead 2 tonight, all was fine. Suddenly. Everyones ping is 900+ and the server is lagging BAD. So we quit, and went our seperate ways. I decided to play some TF2. First match fine. Second round (same server) half way through my ping jumps to the 150+ zone (And stays there till i leave). Join a new server, ping is 30-35 (my normal ping), suddenly, jumps to 200+ and STAYS there once more. What could be causing this? Is it a "DDOS", or is my computer ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the bed? :<

Either the DDoS, or just too much traffic on the other side of the connection.

Same thing happened to me in tf2 today. It went away after like 30 seconds.
