TF2 - I need help! [Technical Difficulties]
For some time now, I've been having a lot of problems with TF2.

First, it wouldn't open. Then, it opened, and worked perfectly fine until a few days later.

2fort, and only 2fort, began lagging so bad the game froze and I couldn't even move my mouse. While playing 2fort, the game would freeze my computer every few minutes and then decloak/undisguise me if I was a spy.

The first map loaded would be extremely slow, and loading maps other than the one first loaded causes the game to freeze and then crash.

Too many things going on at once, or sounds being played for the first time, would cause me to lag for a minute or two. This also happens with people using mics.

Also, recently the audio has been jittery and lagging behind the game volume, sounding so disjointed that it literally makes me cringe to hear it.

I have no idea what's causing this, as TF2 worked perfectly until around January.

If you people have any insight into this, help would be appreciated.

湾岸 Feb 13, 2014 @ 4:10am should use a cl_showfps 1 command and you would be able to find how much FPS you're getting in your com. if your FPS is hitting the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and your computer is of an average to a god-mode custom build, then something is VERY wrong with your TF2. if this persists, you can uninstall and reinstall as i know of no console or advanced commands to help you out with this.

EDIT: you can try going to your TF2 properties and to your local files section and try verifying your game cache. this can probably help you out a bit and can clear your game files if there are any weird source errors.

Lag meaning network connection delays and stuttering meaning graphics/audio refresh rate problems are two different things. First understand and make it clear which ones you are suffering from.

Do you get constant FPS with cl_showfps 1? If not, then it's performance and might have to do with CPU / GPU / RAM, drivers, overheating, power options... needs more looking into.

Do you get perfect results by running "ping -t" in windows command prompt? If not, then it's your network connection. Check your firewall, router and modem settings and revert TF2 console commands rate, cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate back to defaults.
