First off, you're going to want to lower all your graphics settings as low as possible. Next, you're going to want to lower your resolution (I play at 800 x 600 at the moment).

After you've done that, go to http://clugu.com/tf2mate/ to make yourself a custom config. For macs, the best config to get the game running smooth is m0rehighfps, so select that one. for the other options, do as you please.

I play TF2 on a crappy mac with 2 GB of RAM and no grpahics card, and with this I can get a solid 60+ frames per second, making the game look smooth and awesome.

Well first, I never said that
Next, he acts as if he is saying he has a toaster for a pc, he could've easily said he had integrated graphics, and it would make alot more sense.

Also, playing at lower resolutions hurts your monitor ^^

When someone says they don't have a graphics card, the logical thing to assume is that they have integrated graphics. Like you said, if a computer has 0 graphical capabilities it can't run. Thus, the logical assumption is that they have integrated graphics.

The obvious should not have to be stated.

Can you back that up with some references? It sounds plausible but I'm a bit skeptical to believe someone who couldn't put two and two together.

You are right about that one, sorry.

And I cant really explain it that well without taking up a whole 900 paragraphs, so here's a link explaining it all

Looks like a good read. I'll read up on it in the morning when I'm less tired. Thanks!

Either way, if the OP doesnt mind potentionally slightly harming his monitor for more framerate, I guess he could go for it.

A lot of the things you can do to improve TF2's performance on your computer should work regardless of operating system, I believe, as they're changes to how the program itself runs and appears.

Do you mind telling us more about your Mac? Is it a laptop or desktop? How much RAM do you have and what are the processor type and speed? Have you upgraded the graphics card at all?

Just checked it out. There is absolutely zero points in that article stating it will harm your monitor. The only consequences are a slightly pixelly image, and a distorted image (the second problem can be alleviated by choosing a lower resolution with the same aspect ratio as his regular monitor's aspect ratio).

It is, in fact, entirely worth it to get that 20+ FPS boost by lowering TF2's resolution.

You dont get it, do you?
It distorst the images, Stretches the image, stretches pixels, thus making parts of your monitor blurry and distorted.

You dont have to buy a better mac to run team fortress smoother.
You can easily tweak the game if you don't mind making the game look worse.

I assumed he wanted it to still have decent graphic quality too, which with a mac that is literally his only option without voiding every warranty on it.
