Very nice model Omocarega! How many photos? Did you use masking?

My entry: https://sketchfab.com/models/1b32b8bd9c5146299c0f827d8afb2df3

its my attempt to create a 3d scene of the first game ive ever played when i was a kid, Frogger.

(the game where you were a little frog trying to cross the road while trying not to get hit by cars and jump on logs etc to get to the other side. :p )

81 (were 82 but one was blurry so didnt get accepted) camera's and the 3d model is generated with the ultra settings. sadly the photos were taken with a phone camera so the quality isnt the best. will try to improve it but ye... tought i might aswell upload this one now. its actualy the 3rd attempt. first one came out all deformed and wierd. second one was nice but only 2d ish, as you could only view it from one side. this one is the 3d attempt. vissible from all sides but the quality sadly isnt much improved. so ye... thats that i gues.... hope you guys like it. and good luck with the contest to all. :)

Can I enter the contest by using someone else's photos while making the model entirely by myself operating the program ?

Hey guys!

@blad nice yoshi :3

@paleo great creativity! If you want to send me the photos i can give you some hints on how to take a better dataset!

@MLGBase sure you can, if the photographer is happy with it! We'd prefer you make something new, but we're not against it :)

Well, in this case I will just drag him after me tomorrow to do the photos. Hardest part for him will be letting me use his camera :)))

Inspired by a fallout 4 statue (and quite meaningful to the plot at that!) http://i.imgur.com/LFINvOt.jpg , this is my entry for the contest: https://skfb.ly/Lynr . While all photos aligned, it had quite a lot of noise due to the low sun and high camera iso, resulting in a LOT of sky getting picked up. It was 7-8 meters high, so quite a few textures are projected badly due to missing photos. Unexpected was the fact that 3DFZ picked up the whole square the statue was located in, just from unfocused background images. I've definitely spent more time fixing it than I did shooting the photos, but it turned out surprisingly nice in the end. Also, Automatic exposure could not be turned off. I have no idea why they even bothered putting Manual mode on my friends camera.

I also did 2 other lower quality/time models here : https://skfb.ly/LwMF and here https://skfb.ly/LwNV

Very nice model!
You can also use masquerade to remove the background. I think that in this case you should use 2D masks only during the dense point cloud / mesh creation and keep the full photos during the orientation phase (check the 'ignore masking during structure from motion'). Masking the 2d images will certainly give you the best results, but it requires some manual effort. Alternatively, you can also remove the sky directly on the point cloud. There's a points selection tool based on color that might be handy in this kind of situations.

I masked around 25% of them from varying angles, i thought that if one said "nothing is there bro", there wouldn't be any points regardless of the photos. Select by color was useful, but at one point, I unknowingly deleted half the marble :))).

Is it still possible to send models or is it too late already?
Knu  [developer] Feb 29, 2016 @ 4:55am
It's still open! you can submit until midnight (GMT+1, so you still have about 10 more hours!)

hi Knu, sorry for the late reply been away for the weekend so wasnt able to reply or make adjustments to the model. thanks, and great to hear the contest is still open for a few more hours. will now give it some last tries to improve the model. sadly havnt got the chance to get a better camera so ill just have to do with my simple phone camera for now. but for those who are reading this and are wondering if its realy working and as easy as shown on the store page, it is. its amazingly easy and fun to do and the results are great ive seen others make with it are great. will definitly spent the rest of the 7 days trial i have left trying to make improvements and test around with it. also, great to see this on steam. if it wasnt, i would have never known this was possible with a program. i can see this to be verry usefull for game development. not sure if it works? i say try the 14 day trial like i did to judge for yourself and be amazed! :p

i give up on that task, i made 4 times 50 fotos of a sculpture with a smartphone and all the time the program recognizes only 5-7 fotos from front.

Sculpture was on a round table with white paper under it and around the sculpture i made a white paper cover , that you see only ther white background but it didn't help, i was going around the table and was making fotos, but in trial program only the front pictures were recognized.

Tired of this, sorry.
