How is the story compared to the first one?
The first game had an amazing combat, easily the best crpg combat sistem i have ever played. But the story was, well...Horribly bad. Did they improve on it? This is literaly the only thing holding me back on buying this.

well we can't confirm it ebcause the game isn't fully out yet but the Alpha feels much darker than D:OS 1. The stakes also feel high.

The devs did say they worked a lot on the story to give it a more serious tone and darker elements. And Chris Avellone worked on the story so, we can except a pretty solid story.

Yeah, my main problem with the story was how cartoonish it felt, i think i will keep an eye on this game, release is soon anyway, might as well wait the reviews to come in. Thanks a lot \o.

Yeah, because every RPG ever made has to be dark and post apocalyptic.

Nop...But its great if it has good writing and characters. That was not the case on the first game.

So says you. My take, if you're playing this because you're expecting W3 writing you're lost.

Instead of saying useless stuff, why dont you give your take on the story? is it good or not? did you like the story on the first game? Your taste and mine can simply differ.

But the first game felt like it was trying its hardest to be a dark epic story, but all the characters including the vilains felt flat, like they where taken from an old cartoon, like he-man or something, thats why i didnt like it. The main plot and pacing where bad too.

All of larian's games have silly humor and generic main plots. This game feels closer to the 1st divinity game's tone than original sin, so that should please the folks that hate fun.

Can he do better than Durance in Pillars of Eternity? I never played the old games, and only know him from Pillars. I realize Durance is popular, but he was completely unlikable, and the prose was a mess I doubt ever saw an editor. Maybe the need to get a voice actor to actually read the lines will improve it.

Honestly I'd rather have Jake Paul in my party than Durance.
thoughts on Grieving Mother?

Act 1 of Original Sin had really enjoyable writing, though I agree it got really predictable after Act 1.

So is the story still stuck in alpha? That sounds hard to judge
MrFrengLitch 31 aug, 2017 @ 20:10
Yes still alpha

Chris was really helpful, but there's a lot more to it:

Team:
- DOS1 started with one writer, added a second during production. Both great writers, of course, but that's 1.5 writers for the game.
- DOS2 has a writing team of seven, with Chris as a consultant.

Time
- DOS2 has had a longer development cycle than DOS1 had, so we've been able to do a lot more. We developed the story for a year before starting to write, and kept developing it as we wrote the game.

Engine
- We updated the dialogue editor so it was much more flexible and wieldy. This allowed us to build dialogues as conversations. We also learned from DOS1 to be more concise and to-the-point.

As a dev I know I'm biased, but much as I loved DOS1 and enjoyed the writing immensely, when it comes to story and dialogue, DOS2 is ten times the game DOS1 was.

We hope you love it as much as we do.
Story is significantly better. I love the characters, the world, the writing, and the dialouge and persuasion system is WAY better than what D:OS1 offered. I actually care about every character I talked to, which is more than most rpg's can say.

I love the conversation in here! If any of you are interested in our guild on discord here is an invite: https://discord.gg/rp9AqNW
You know you can just create a thread so interested people with find it instead of just spamming it in every thread you can possibly find, right?
This also makes you seem very low class. I know I wouldn't want to join such a low class Discord server.

This story is for a more mature audience and it has left the Grimm's fairytale influence behind.
