[SOLVED!] PC Overheating?
Whenever I play Metro 2033 or Last Light, sometimes my PC shuts itself down. WIth no warning or anything. It just goes off as if someone unplugged it from the wall. The two Metro games are the only games I own that cause this. And I noticed that whenever it happens, my PC vents start to blow out much hotter air then usual. Which leads me to believe this is caused by my PC overheating.

But why would these two specific games cause my PC to overheat and shutdown?

HOW could these two games cause my PC to overheat?

Can anyone think of a reason for this? Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Also, this happens very often in 2033, but happens only very rarely in Last Light. But it does occur in both games.

you just assume its from overheating? the psu has not even been mentioned which could be the issue. list all your specs in DETAIL including the EXACT power supply.

I did as you said. Hope it helps any.

I'm afraid I lack the proper tools at the moment to open up my PC and check the exact PSU. But I can tell you that it runs 500 Watts. According to the box it came in, 500 Watts is the bare minimum power required to run my GPU. Really, I should have a 600W PSU but I can't afford one right now. If I get around to opening up my PC I'll make sure to list the exact PSU.

My main question is what exactly are your temps?

I'm assuming you have it in a default store built type case, most not having good airflow at all. The psu should be fine if you say it's 500 watt with what you have in there from what i can tell. At stock speeds the 4100 and the 270 usually don't get hot but like if you got the stock cpu heatsink then a nonblower type 270x you're just recirculating hot air in the case.

But can't tell without some load temps or more info on your setup dude. I'd never have a case i have to have special "tools" to open....though my first case i used had a dumb lock on it it came off easy enough with some assistance of a Matabo.

tools? you dont need tools for thumbscrews which is what every pc I have seen has. and you still did not list your specs.

get around to it? this thread is not going to go any where until you give your exact pc specs and power supply.

Chill out, seems like they dont know how to check for stuff like that, and a screwdriver is a tool...

Is it a retail desktop like HP or something? If so google the model on the back or front of the tower and you get all the tech specs aside from the stuff you upgraded. If not you can get the CPU by typing " Device Manager" into the search bar above the start button, and clicking on "Device Manager" icon (there may be a few just click on "device manager") then click on "processors"to get your CPU specs in this format " [Manufacturer] [Series] [Model Number] [Clock speed] ".

for exaple mine is Intel Core(TM) i5-4670k CPU @ 3.4Ghz
So its an Intel i5 4670k

Just the CPU manufacturer and the model number will be sufficent. As for the power supply, I would replace it with a 650 or above asap. You dont need that much but you also dont want to have to buy a whole new PSU next time you decide to upgrade. Its like a price difference of 15-20 bucks where a new PSU down the line will be 50+ .

He has a FX4100 cpu, and a 270x. What we need to know is the case (model number of the pc would be fine though) and what type of 270x he put into it/it came with. Hopefully it has a blower type heatsink....

Edit: If I'm incorrect just rage at me, we'll live :ss13ok:

My PC is a CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA880. The case looks like this:

Everything on it is stock except for the graphics card.

He might have one that has to have a torqx set to unscrew, with the lil tamper nob in it too. I'm assuming it's a store bought one like from best buy etc so the model number will work.

thanks. a decent quality 500 watt psu would be plenty for your system but it could be a pos for all we know. try to find out the exact model as soon as you can.

Airflow shouldt be a problem with that case as long as you have some 120mm or 80mm fans blowing air in and out in a way that causes air to rise and push out the back of the case. Kind of counter clockwise, but with the front bottom fan taking air into the case.

lol that "gamer" pc comes with an Nvidia g210 that does not even meet minimum requirements for most modern games. good thing you upgraded the video card but now we wait to see the exact power supply.

What do you epect, its one of those premade PC sites that charges like 50 bucks for a upgrade from a 1Tb to 2Tb drive. They pretty much prey on people looking to get into PC gaming but are too intimidated to build their own system. Shame too, you can build a quality rig for that same price.
