'Out of Range' message when change resolution

Hello everybody. I need some help. I've tried to change resolution when in game to get better performance, since the game decided itself to use the max res available, resulting in less than 15 FPS. Every resolution I try, below 1680 x 1050, ends up with msg: Out of Range. I would like to run the game at 1280 x 1024 or less, since my PC doesn't have what it takes to do it at 1680 x 1050. I've edited user.cfg, with no results.
My PC stats:
Intel Quad Core 6600 at 2,4 GHz
4 GB RAM DDR2
Nvidia GTS 220 1GB

What directX version do you have it set to use? If you set it to use DirectX9 instead of 10 or 11, it may work.

Out of range shouldn't have anything to do with the game. It's probably because your monitor doesn't support other resolutions.

I have a Gforce GTS 220, 19" monitor. It supports up to 1680 x 1050 @ 60hz (native). I run Borderlands 2 in 1280 x 800 with no problem at all. I use DirectX 9.0c (with WXP 64 bit and my g-card I don't have many options). I've tried to run game at all possible resolutions form 800 x 600 to max, but didn't work.

Have you considered getting a new rig? It may not be the issue, but yours is old and it would certainly help.

Oh no it wasn't. Do you mean the one in the OP? Yeah. It fit the minimum system requirements, which for a game like this simply isn't enough.

There are moments in the game that require SIGNIFICANTLY more graphical power, and I highly doubt the developers tested the cards at these moments.

One level later in the game is notoriously hard on GPUs. I can get a solid 60+fps everywhere else in the game but that one level brings me down to the 40s when I max the game out.

I always test the game on that level when I'm tweaking my settings and overclock because of this.

Sorry about the fact that you had to upgrade, but with that GPU it was simply a necessity to play this game.

It's a fact that minimum requiremens doesn't allow to play fine any game, but they allow to play at least. I can't accept that having min reqs in my pc, I can even start the game.... even if I play at 20fps. I had the same situation with NFS Shift, so I upgraded then. The thing is, the game was showing some error usually related with screen, and that has not sense for me.

The out of range message only appears when i start up the game before it was working fine up until i got a new GPU..
