I have tried that, including getting mvcuda.dll from dll-files as suggested at https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Metro_2033#Cannot_be_installed_or_APPCRASH_on_startup

But the event log at Applications simply still writes metro2033.exe "APPCRASH" without further indication why .
SpectatorX May 17, 2020 @ 12:04pm
By event log do you mean event viewer? If not then go to event viewer, it must list any error message.

Also i would suggest you to verify game files first, next download latest gpu driver and install it. Also download latest nvidia driver, unpack it and from physx folder copy .dll files and replace with these .dll files present in game's folder. After doing all that game should run.
nafcom May 17, 2020 @ 1:59pm
yes, it just lists "appcrash" in the event viewer without any usable specifics. I already have the latest NVDIA Game Ready drivers (Thanks to Nvidias GeForce Experience tool it automatically tells me if there is a new version to install).

And yes verify game files I did already a couple of times, each time it says 1 file failed and it re-downloads a 722 kb file.

"Also download latest nvidia driver, unpack it and from physx folder copy .dll files" <-- the wiki you linked in your original post refers to the physx folder of the physx installation of Windows 10. I haven't tried yet taking it directlsy from the self-extracting setup exe of the game ready driver. will try that now.

I did as you suggested and copied all DLLs from the PhysX folder in the Commons Steam folder of Metro2033.

The event viwer lists this error :

Go to game's files, click with right mouse button on metro2033.exe and select "run as administrator".

Also make sure you have installed physx. If you do not have it installed download and install:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/physx/physx-9-19-0218-driver/

Yes, Physx is installed, it is automatically installed as it's coming with the GameReady driver package.
I anyway did reinstall it no change.

I did run it as administrator via compatibilty mode . Now the compatibility wizard opened and asked me if the progam was executed correctly. The wizard analyzed it and suggested also acticvating the compatibility for Win7.

I also wrote to the Nvidia PhysX support an email tonight asking if they maybe have an idea why it does not work for me (as obviously it works for you and everybody else)
SpectatorX May 19, 2020 @ 6:17pm
I didn't recommend you to run in compatibility mode, just to run as administrator via option which is available directly in context menu of every executable file.

I did that too, just as administrator only, no change of the situation.

Then it is something deeper in your windows. Uninstall all unwanted programs, scan with malwarebytes antimalware free edition, clear temp and prefetch folders...

This. Solved exactly all crashes on startup I had with Metro 2033 non-Redux, specifically these "Previous launch was unsuccessful" ones. Honestly, I already uninstalled Metro for good when by some luck I stumbled upon this Nvidia driver (prior to finding this most useful thread).

The problem seems to be that by default Steam installs a different version of Physx for the game, the one that is located in the /Metro 2033/Install/ subfolder (some version 9.10.02 something). But 9.10 as I understand is older than this 9.19 and does not work with Nvidia Turing cards.

Nvida specifially mentions Metro 2033 as one of the games the 9.19 Physx version is required to work with Turing cards. For reference I have a GTX 1070, in-game Metro settings set to DX11 and Advanced Physics. All this is run off Windows 10 Home 64-bit version 1909.

Windows 10 1909 Metro will not start....
event viewer = Path of the faulty module: C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.9659_none_d08cfd96442b25cc\MSVCR80.dll
any one got the same problem or have a fix ?
Tommy_H Jun 7, 2020 @ 4:32am
You have Metro Original 2033 or Redux 2033?

I only have Original 2033. I have the following MS Visual C++ Redistributables installed according to my Win10 control panel
- 2005 Redist
- 2008 Redist x64
- 2008 Redist x86
- 2015 Redist x86
- 2015-2019 Redist x64

Not sure if they are all strictly needed for Metro 2033 but whatever, game starts and plays fine with these 5 Redistr's.
