Im not a bleedin scammer just bought a game i cannot play as not going to be able to update to win 7 (dont want 8 anyways as wife got laptop with it on its a load of old cobblers, built for the ipad / mobile phone toting youth) for at least another 12 months.

need to change the offer now as just got SOSE rebellion (the original post was incorrect in that I already have SOTS 1 trinity) anyways as apparently runs fine on XP. So any game trade offers now will be considered as really do not want Sword of the stars 2. Any game producers / publishers who ignores a workhorse O/S like XP, still the most stable and user friendly O/S.

The problem is that this game is a CPU intensive game and XP made the physics engine too restrictive. So unless you are making a game to run on a limited console that came out 7 years ago, why in the world would you restrict yourself to a 12 year old OS that has major issues with multi-core and x64 programs or more than 3 gigs of ram.

Not bashing xp or you, I loved it and Windows 7 seems better in every way to me. You might give it a try.

maybe i a bit of a luddite . However from what I can see so far ... well look at the system requirements for doom 3 both the original and the new bfg edition. Now tell me how such massive increase in spec or the same game, and therefore much more expense helps gaming?

The problem with strategy games is not the GPU but the CPU and Xp doesn't truly support multi threads. It has a few tricks it can use to try and use multi threads but the tech didn't exist when XP came out.

We have had multi threads now for 10 years so asking a dev not to use them to make their game better seems a stretch.

Chronobomb, you're incorrect. The reason this won't run on XP is because it requires DirectX 10 which is only on Vista or newer. XP (and NT before it) both supported multi-threading just fine. There have been improvements to multitasking/multithreading in the newer versions of Windows but they're not relevant to this game and why it doesn't run on XP.

From the requirements on the store page:

OS:Windows 7 - 64 bit
Processor:Core2 Duo or equivalent
Memory:2 GB RAM
Graphics:512-MB DirectX 10, Integrated graphics (laptops) are not supported

From the wikipedia entry on DirectX here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directx_10#DirectX_10

A major update to DirectX API, DirectX 10 ships with and is only available with Windows Vista and later; previous versions of Windows such as Windows XP are not able to officially run DirectX 10-exclusive applications.
