Devs explained that you can run same mission several times after you complete it but it does not work like this and it would be too op if it worked like this on all missions. I think there is about 5% chance that one of the missions you will be able to run several times (it usually triggers only once per day for me, sometimes not at all). Several people wrote bugreport that it does not work as expected (like devs said) but I don't know if there was any answer from customer support as the question was raised right before holidays.
how it works in-game for me is like this:
1. equip duellist
2. attack a node
3. upon finishing the attack (pressing exit on reward screen), game rolls a proc chance (i presume)
4. if duellist procs, the node you just attacked will refresh instantly at no cost
5. when duellist procs, you may get the same node available for 2+ free refreshes depending on your beautification bonus (the ship upgrade that gives +1.25%/lvl to your crew bonus)
assuming what i described is how it works, you could equip duellist only for nodes that you REALLY want to reset; then unequip him for harder nodes (expert/epic) especially if you need to debuff the attacker creeps with other crew.
but if you have enough crew slots, you may wanna just leave duellist equipped, especially after you have unlocked the highest tier rewards for all cards, so you can get a chance to redo the node and farm for cards again.
as archmag mentioned, the proc chance does feel like just roughly 5%, which is actually pretty low... so if you really do need to strengthen your towers hp or reduce creep dmg to beat many levels (maybe you don't have engineering tower or stone shield) then yea, not equipping duellist probably isn't that huge a loss.
i had it proc 3x in a row on a silver raid when i really needed it, so it was nice :D
