It sounds like a "If we did this, what would you want done" type of thread. Considering it's 4 years old that would be a probably not gunna happen for a while, if it does.
At best I'd hope that some of the employees are working on it in spare time but they won't announce it until they get close enough that the company is willing to invest in finishing it.

I'd be completely happy with a few bug fixes and adding in a repeat build feature, I'd buy it again just for that.

That's straight from the developer and where the rumor originates from, so there is nothing more concrete than that (as far as I am aware).

Ah I see what you mean, Mecron has been active in the thread even in 2020. The thing is he mentions they would need 30k people to sign a petition but does not initiate the petition (maybe he is not allowed to?) "Rytram99" made a petition, but as it has 18 signatures at this time I don't think this is feasable.

I shared it on the 4X subreddit and got a bit of progress, but yes, I guarantee there are a lot more out there that would sign it if they knew about it.

What they would really need to do is remake Multiplayer so it can actually be played over the Internet.
