Mike.nl's Mod Tools: MEG Editor supports 8-Bit Armies!
Hi everyone,

Mike.nl here, known from the old Petroglyph forums and the unofficial mod tools for Petroglyph's previous games.

I've updated my Mega File Editor today with support for 8-Bit Armies, so now you modders can open up the CONFIG.MEG as well and edit files to your heart's content.

(!!! IMPORTANT: Make a copy before you start editing it !!!)

Get the editor from my site: http://modtools.petrolution.net/tools/MegEditor

After an initial test it seems that the game DOES pick up changes to CONFIG.MEG; I've managed to reduce a unit's cost down to 1. Of course, I doubt this works for multiplayer matches.

It's not a map editor, or model exporter, but it's a start!

Have fun modding!

Edit: please make sure you have .NET Framework 4.5[www.microsoft.com] and Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable[www.microsoft.com] (x86 version!) installed.

What about Alamo importer and exporter?

I don't have those. Maybe I'll work on them, depends on my free time. The .alo format is different from Petroglyph's first games anyway, so I have to figure that out first.

Still going eh Mike? Always been a great modding pillar of the Petro and C&C Communities. Good to see you're still working hard.

I believe the ALO Max plugin from Grey Goo should work for 8-bit Armies as well (about 90% sure anyway).

Can you link it? Can't seem to find it.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.

Works on my end. I modded the splash screen (DDS format, used GIMP for editing/conversion and then injected it).

Now if I could only figure out what those BUI files are...

That is easy. Problem is actually changing the menus without the source (.fla). I am starting to create a mod and need to edit the menu so I can try to add a campaign, and it's hard without it.

Runs fine for me on Win10.

I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong but i can't run it. I have tried a fresh install of windows 10 with all compatibility options and enabling .NET Framework 3.5 in windows features, and i have tried a fresh install of windows 7 with .Net Framework 4.0 and with 4.5.

When i try to run it on Windows 10 the mouse spins like it's loading but nothing ever happens.
When i try to run it on Windows 7 a dialog pops up right away saying "Mega File Editor has stopped working" with the option to check for a solution and close the program or just close the program, It has a details drop down, but i didn't see anything useful in it:

Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to mod this game?

We know some stuff and how to do it, but we need to organize everything in one place, like a forum. And we still lack some tools, for example, GUI editor.

We could use this one http://8bitarmies.wikia.com/wiki/Board:Modding or just create a new steam group and make use of the discussion page.

Steamgroup maybe? Only worth it if people actually join, and not only 3 or 4 people.
