[WORKAROUND] Crash when starting a new game (for unsupported SSE4.2 instruction set)
After some research in older post I found out that the the unsupported SSE4.2 instruction set of my "old" but still well performing AMD Phenom II X4 955 is in fact the cause of the problem so many of us have.

Most of the information that follows comes from a post here on Steam about Resident Evil VII, which also suffered from the requirement of the SSE4.1 instruction set.

To work around the not supported SSE4.2 instruction set you can use the Intel® Software Development Emulator[software.intel.com]; no matter if you have an AMD processor. But be warned the game will slow down at certain points, because the emulation of the unsupported instruction calls takes time.

1. Download sde-external-8.12.0-2017-10-23-win.tar.bz2 (current version for Windows)
2. Extract the content somewhere on your hard drive
3. Start cmd (Command Prompt) with administrator privileges
4. Enter 'cd C:\<extraction-path>' to navigate into the folder where you extracted sde-external-8.12.0-2017-10-23-win.tar.bz2
5. Start Little Nightmares from Steam and wait for the start screen
6. Go back to your cmd (Alt+Tab)
7. Enter 'tasklist', look out for 'LittleNightmares.exe' and note its PID (the number right beside)
8. Enter 'sde -attach-pid <PID>' (replace <PID> by the number you noted)
9. Go back to Little Nightmares

You already will notice that this takes much more time than usual, but be patient. In the start screen select a new game. Again, this will take longer than usual and you will experience some slow downs while playing due to the emulated instruction calls.

This is NO solution for the problem, which only can fixed by the developers of Little Nightmares.

So please BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment and Tarsier Studios, patch your game and remove the requirement of the SSE4.2 instruction set.

If Capcom could do it for Resident Evil VII you can do it for Little Nightmares.

Really gotta fix your game, please

Same problem - my pc is also very old (Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q6600)
but in the past I was always able to play all the games I wanted (crysis3 / gta5 / ect.). This little indie game manages that my pc is now completely outdated (the first game that I can not play)!
Really a pity about this game and A REAL BIG NIGHTMARE!!!

Note:
"no man's sky" had the same problem at that time (SSE 4.2 after release), but the developers fixed the matter relatively quickly (in some days).

I'm asking for refund. It's a shame the issue is not fixed yet

The workaround with the Intel emulator works well for me (Phenom II) though it's a shame developers make users jump through so many hoops for not much reason.

If Bandai isn't going to do something about this issue, can we get this topic pinned at least, please?

I wrote exactly: sde attach pid 209922
( 29922 pid number)

But it only says:
SDE ERROR: Need at least "-- application" name. Use -help for help

Could you please clear it up a bit for me what I´m doing wrong, thanks this workaround :)

The argument name is "-attach-pid" (without quotes). Note the dashes.
Also if the PID is 29922, then it's what you must supply to the command but you inserted "0" for some reason.

Maybe someone need this little script if you not want to look for the PID every time and run the sde with it.

for /f "tokens=2" %%a in ('tasklist /nh /fi "imagename eq LittleNightmares.exe"') do (SET /A ProcessId=%%a)
cd <path to the sde folder>
sde -attach-pid %ProcessId%

Open the Editor, copy the lines mentioned above to it and save it as "<your file name>.bat" file anywhere (maybe on the desktop). You need to run it as Administrator after starting the game. The comand promt should be opend after it and sde should run with the PID of the LittleNightmares.exe. You also can create a shortcut of the batch script and set the run as Administrator option. So you not need to click run as Administrator every time ;). The comand prompt only stay opened if Little Nightmares is running. Otherwise the script do not found the exe of it and close automatically.

I will not go through all this trouble and use my time on this. They better fix the problem.

I have the same problem. Have to do a refund. The game is not very cheap and with problems at the very beginning. Why should people spend their time correcting these errors?

Way to go there devs... guess my hard-earned money wasnt good enough to play your game.
