English voice acting is much better than Japanese
I can't blame you for using Japanese voices if you're Japanese yourself.

I started watching playthrough an speedrun videos after finishing the game on Hardcore. I never played this genre before. A surprising number of people use Japanese voices with English subtitles.

I think this is baffling considering how much better English voice acting is. The Japanese voices sound like a generic anime. Japanese Yuki sounds very ordinary. Japanese Mugen is mildly annoying, Japanese Takuma is obnoxious and highly arrogant and doesn't even sound old.

I don't think it's cultural. So, why play with the Japanese voices? For better immersion? Assuming your English is good, you don't have to read subtitles and you can focus on WATCHING things around you instead of reading. It's like watching a movie with subtitles. You're missing a part of the movie because you're busy reading instead of watching action and expressions. (If you live in a country which mostly watches imported movies, you have a dillema between subtitles, lector. The latter lets you watch more action but obscures the movie's sound and original actors' voice acting.)

I appreciate the game's setting and attention to detail. But I'm not a fan of Japanese culture (an otaku). The word "fan" orginates from "fanatic".

Japanese is more in line with the theme and atmosphere of the game.

Assuming your English is good is a big assumption.
