Akeel ,, there are players who can play without a map and there are players who cannot play even with a map. When I started playing this game a few years ago, there was no map at all. For me, a map of caves and a map of the area are not needed at all, because I know the whole area by heart.
Cheers dude,,,
I only started going to the caves fairly recently because i found locating the entrances a nightmare, but once i found it all was good. The first time i went down i got lost as i'd never been down there before. Second time i went i took a BCU etc, set that up and all went well. I now know the caves well enough that i don't really need the BCU anymore, but i will keep it there as a memorial to my first cave adventures.
it just takes time.
the caves are a bit tricky because everything looks so similar at first, but once you get some situational awareness and start familiarizing yourself with how each "room" connects to another it gets easier.
setting up outposts will for sure help a lot... even if it's just a platform and some stairs it gives you a place to put a storage crate you can store supplies in and a landmark to help your brain remember where everything is.
For some of us who are challenged with directions its helpful to have all the details we can get.. Im not good with maps in rl therefore I have a GPS-- some ppl are great with just knowing their surroundings which is awesome so I guess this discussion isn't for those who it comes naturally to or who love the challenge of getting lost and figuring it out..
Some of us (ME) get freaked out at being lost.. so all those who tried to help by adding information - thank you-- I haven't gone into those lava caves for fear of getting lost..those who just want to add comment about not needing a map -I applaud you for your skills but we aren't all like that.
We have only the beacons from our BCU to give a pointer if needed buy also the map N.S.E.W direction.
Its not difficult to do a lava tubes run from East lake to the top West lake oxygen tanks and gear plus climbing axe required. 2 swims- one down and one back up.
I have already posted it in a discussion here to show it was true and could be completed in a short time.
Also the distance is a lot shorter than the surface since I have built a wooden highway across the entire map on the surface.
Time below is not the same as above. takes 1 day in surface time but around 10 to 15 minutes below.
When I first started playing Subsistence there was noway I would enter a cave ever.
The fear of getting lost subsides and just follow the gps N for top lake West Lake and South for East lake the birch trees lake.
Be familiar with that map direction and you cant go wrong.
Do it with friends if needed.
