Why are daggers/hammers so BAD?
Maybe I'm imagining it, but I thought the game used to have Crit Chance as a stat... The wiki says the stat is actually Crit Power. This means daggers are 100% useless, right? I thought maybe picking the "crits are basically one hit KOs" perk would work well with a high crit dagger, but instead, the dagger's just as likely to hit a crit as a sword or hammer which can hit 3+ enemies at a time, compared to the dagger's 1. Furthermore, the best dagger, the Galaxy Dagger, has a weight of +5, meaning it sends enemies flying... Wouldn't you want them to be close, since it's a dagger???

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Hammer is incredibly slow, despite the item description saying "It's made from an ultra-light material"... which also contradicts the +5 weight. But at least the higher weight makes sense on a hammer, where its intended use it to shove groups of enemies back.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Sword can be gotten for free, and replaced cheaper than it costs to buy the other two, (50k vs 75k) AND it's the fastest sword in the game. What the hell?

Daggers should be the best for 1-on-1 with crits and rapid attacks. Hammers should be for attacking big groups, like slimes, and shoving enemies away defensively. The sword should be the middle of the road, able to take on 2-3 enemies at once and have a defensive ability. There's just like... a serious imbalance in combat. :/

dagers are good and fast,however they only work in front of you
hammers are good jes slower but the more weight it has the further the nock-back is that enemy's get, this means it takes longer for enemy's to come back to you,and you be ready tto hit them again

Daggers are kinda awful, yeah. They only work against one enemy at a time, mostly, which in itself is a death sentence for the weapon being much good- and past that, you generally need to corner something to get much out of it. It can be awkward to hit fast flying enemies, and if there's more than one, you're gonna get wrecked. It'd be better if it had a really high crit chance, which would make sense too.

Hammers might be potentially okay?? I recall someone who really liked using their slam ability or whatnot. Never tried galaxy hammer since it came out after I basically finished the game, though. Wonder if it'd be good with Acrobat for half cooldown on special? I can't comment much here since, well, the game never just gives you one (a chest in the cave gives you a nice dagger at one point, at least) and all the hammer drops I've gotten were incredibly weak by the time I found 'em.

I'd say the Galaxy Dagger would be worth it if, say, it had a 20% chance to one-shot the enemy. It'd be worth the added risk. Or if you want to have less luck involved, go for the other perk which lets you use the triple-stab special attack. 3 chances to crit. But the crit chance is just so LOW.

Hammers are good for... getting through the mine, I guess, but I wouldn't say it's great for actually killing the enemies. It's too slow when they're up against the wall, and it shoves them so far back, especially the flying ones, that you'd have to chase them down or wait for them to walk back to you. The hammer might be decent with Acrobat - halved cooldown for more ground pounding.

Daggers are hands down the worst, though. It's hard to hit an enemy, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you're being swarmed, and the special attack isn't particularly good either.
The hammer might be good with either higher DPS or halved special cooldown, but its actual KO potential sucks in my opinion. It's good for pushing enemies away if you just want to mine a rock, or if you burst a giant slime and have 4 baby slimes swarming you.
The sword lets you corner enemies, hit a 90(?) degree arc, block incoming attacks, fight multiple enemies at once, AND the best sword has better stats, whereas the dagger has high weight for whatever stupid reason and the hammer's super slow despite being "lightweight".

Same reason why you only get Swords from Mines chest, and there are 3x as many Swords in the game...

I'm in agreement that the daggers are severely underwhelming. Getting the Wooden Mallet and Lead Club as drops going down the mine makes them my preferred weapon (Something about them is so satisfying to me), because I prefer the slam special to the parry. When enemies come at you the parry just doesn't knock them back far enough to keep them from getting you anyway in the second you can't swing- Hammers throw enemies away from me.

The Galaxy Hammer is a tad underwhelming for it's cost, though. It's a good thing money becomes basically a non-issue by the time it's available to you in most files.

I know this is late, but hammers are easily the best weapons in the game. If you know how to combo them by mashing left click as quickly as possible immediately after right clicking they will do absurd damage.

People do say that's a unintended glitch, so technically that's exploiting a bug

Yes... This thread is so old that the game has been updated 2-3 times since, and both hammers and daggers are viable at endgame due to the new enchantments. Daggers can now have a 1/3 chance to instakill any enemy, and hammers can now get speed and strength increases.
