Anyway, since I don't have it, I'd say that your best bet is to use it and watch/listen for enemy responses. If you shoot an enemy out of sight of the rest of them and they don't comment or alter their patrols any more than they would with the other version, the gun with that mod is as silent to the enemy as the original.
Bear in mind that the enemies are not responding to what you hear through your speakers/headphones. They are responding to something that the game engine says they should hear. The recordings for voices and sound effects are done separately. It could simply be that the guys who recorded this sound effect got the recording levels wrong!

Yep, but i'd recommend starting the NG+ with Steam in offline mode. The local & cloud files tend to conflict and cause you to get just mask, vest, and gauntlet upgrades, but none of your previous weapons or attachments.
