Serious Sam 3: BFE
Linux: My settings for smooth framerate
My System:
AMD Fx-8350 cpu
Nvidia GTX 660 ti
8gig ram
Fedora 17 64bit

The game auto detects everything at ultra. But doesnt play very nice. After much experimenting I found the settings that affect performance the most, at least with my system. Also I cant stand not using vsync, so these settings are to get 60fps stable with vsync on at 1080p.

CPU Speed:
For some reason if you pick "lowest" then customise the setting so they are the same as in Ultra mode. I get a much less spikey framerate, and a higher average framerate.

GPU Speed:
Set the option to "ultra" then go and customise these settings...

Max 3d Rendering MPIX = Unlimited. Somehow unlimited is actually faster and smoother than 2.0 MPIX (1920, 1080)

Ambient Occlusion: Disable for big performance boost

Multisample Antilaliasing: None for better performance in alot of places in the game. Dont really need it at 1080p, especially with MPIX set to unlimeted.

Shadow Antialiasing: None for a more steady fps.

CPU Memory:
Just leave set to "ultra' as was auto detected.

Hope this help a few other people enjoy the game more.

No, they are not the same.

Some tips for less efficient systems:

what do you mean not the same, you choose lowest, then customise the settings to the same values given by ultra. I get more fps from doing that. Clearly something is different, but not something we have proper access too.
I'm thinking about trying out some of these optimizations, but they say that if it isn't broken, don't fix it, and I'm satisfied with the frame rate as it is on auto-detect. I'm getting around 70 frames on average with a GTX 670 4GBs (i7-3770K, 16GBs DDR3, Fedora 18 64-bit, Nvidia drivers) and playing on Ultra everything.
Ok, special for you. CPU setting ultra vs lowest (12 customized)

I think those tips can apply for all OS but performance increase and shadows may be kinda different.

I played the area where you get the cannon and fight two Khnums in Power of the Underworld with the CPU on Ultra and Lowest. On Lowest I reached a high of 88 frames and a low of 54, and the average was in the 70s. On Ultra I reached a high of 82 frames and a low of 52, and the average was in the 60s.

... I think. Is there a way to output your frame rate in a log file? I'm estimating the average.
Thanks Rasta for the screen shots. That clearly shows the fps being higher, and shows exactly what is lost to get it.
hs6rb, I would change my settings either if I were you. You have a very nice system and you already sit happily on average of 60fps.
Also Rasta, Since it seems from your other posts, that you are playing in Windows 7. Not sure that the same performance benefits will apply. I have tested the game on my Windows 7 partition and can play perfectly smooth without any changes. I can just leave everything at Ultra. These tips were what I needed to make it smooth on Linux at least for my machine.
I got the same specs here, but my vga is a Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256bits, probabilly this is the problem, Serious Sam dont run, crawl over here
