Serious Sam 3: BFE
RafiLinux Feb 10, 2014 @ 4:56pm
Odd graphics issue during some map sections.
I am running Linux Mint 15 - Cinnamon - 32 Bit - Serious Sam 3 runs excellently - except for 2 sections.

During the section where Sam get the Sirian Mutilator and when he activates the BLUE Pyrimad engine the textures look odd as if the reflection is trying to reflect over and over again into infinity.

CPU: 3.0 Ghz
Video: Nvidia GT 630 - 2 GB
Memory: 4 GB

It's during this time that game actually hurts my eyes. Anyone else experience this?

can you post a log?

AlenL might swing by and help you out tomorrow!
just hold on!

I've had reflection issues too, but in the Jewel of the Nile DLC, when you climb down the stairs to recover the 1st artifact the game is drawing multiple layers at the same time, the strange thing is that when you go back and use the same stairs, the glitch is over. I am using SteamOS and apart from that moment the game runs fine. A great job.

can you post screenshots when it happens?

dont know much about linux so you might have to wait a bit longer for one of the devs to come. sorry.

your rig looks fine though. updated everything, right?

Please post the Sam3.log file from that, and screenshot of how it looks. Thanks!

I mistaken which rig I was on when I made the OP. OP was edited to reflect the actual rig in which the error occurred.

Log file -

I did not save near the area with the error. Is there a console command I could use to go to that map/area. It's where you get the Arrow weapon.

Like this?

I've been getting it for maybe two months. I didn't say anything since it doesn't really interfere with the game, and I figured it was probably a bad driver or something since nobody else said anything. It happens consistently indoors and other dark areas including the generators.

Fedora 20, 64-bit, GTX 670 with Nvidia driver 331.38.

The first screenshot looks close to it but I only get it in those two areas. Metallic relfections seems to be the problem.

OK, the 3rd pic is what I was talking about.

I put it on tourist and zipped through to the first generator to take some screenshots. It's like there's a semi-transparent sheet of metal in the way, and it moves with my view. It feels like the same thing as in the other screenshots, but it's more noticeable since it reflects the light from the generator.

^ Yeah - It's like that.

OK, sorry for not replying sooner, but that was only for one reason... I'm confused! :(

Can't see anything in logs that would give away what actually happend. :/

My best bet would be that some OpenGL programs weren't created successfully from given vertex and pixel shaders. (I think we have console report for that, but I'm not sure.)

Anyhow, two thing you can try from here...

1) update graphics drivers (of course, that's always the first to try!) :)

2) let OpenGL in Sam3 use separate shaders
That's done via console variable ogl_bUseSeparateShaders=1 and then restart the game.

^ Thanks - Drivers are updated. I will try then 2 suggestion.

What is the name of the level in which you discover the Blue Pyramid?

It's Unearthing the Sun.
