BioShock Remastered

BioShock Remastered

This "remaster" is still a mess!
I had heard the horror stories regarding this remastered edition of Bioshock since its release, but only in the last few days have I decided to sit down and play through it. It's about time I replayed it anyway, and figured I'd check it out and see if it's as bad as people made out. I kind of figured that the patches since its release would have fixed many of the issues I heard about all those months ago. I was wrong.

My playthrough was ruined by deleted saves, crashing, and TERRIBLE audio mixing. I had to restart my game twice, and was set back several times due to deleted saves upon exiting the game. Of course, this was nothing compared to the hours I lost due to the game crashing, both in gameplay and while saving/loading a new area.

I got around this by saving often (something I shouldn't HAVE to worry about in the first place) but the audio mixing started ruining the story and general experience for me. Audio logs and voices coming over the radio were almost inaudible. No amount of adjustable sliders seemed to make things better either. I got killed a number of times from turrets that were shooting me while making no sound. Weapon sounds would occasionally cut out on me, as well as a number of other audio related issues.

The sound levels on the voice work in particular really ruined the experience for me as it impacted the story. By the time I finished it, I was itching to play Bioshock 2 - but I decided to just play the original. I don't care if it doesn't look quite as sharp or whatever, it isn't worth the hassle. Low and behold, playing the original release - it works like a charm.

No doubt, the remasters feel smoother to play, and look better - if only slightly, but damn is it a shame how these turned out.

Nice to hear some of you aren't experiencing these issues, but I have no faith in 2K or whoever fixing this stuff. Not after all this time. Oh well.

If someone knows of any definitive fix for the crashing and, for me - most importantly, the audio levels, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Unless it came in the last 24 hours, I was already running the latest version.

Oh my God, if this fixes my issues - I'll be extremely happy! Talk about coincidence. It's taken almost a year, but could this finally fix it? Let's hope!

I'll personally accept responisbility for this patch finally dropping if it fixes the issues I brought up! Can't wait to try it out when I get home. :steamhappy:

I haven't tried Bioshock Remastered yet, but I can say for sure that the crashing still happens on Bioshock 2 after the patch.

What were you doing when it crashed?
After the patch my game won't even run. Asks me to reset my user.ini and settings.ini and the splash screen shows for a minute then a big white box and then a box asking me to check online for a solution or close the program.
I verifyed my files and even reinstalled the game. I played the game before and it ran fine except the losing saves when exiting but i have 17 hours in plus a few achiveements.

I was fighting a big daddy and game crashed on me mid-fight.

After patch, it said my ini was no longer valid and to start with default set up. Game ran fine afterward. After awhile of playing, I saved (i have 2 saves in case one crashes) and it crashed on me. So this patch didn't fix that issue. Otherwise, the game runs fine.

My Specs: i7 7700K @ 4.5ghz (oc) 16gb ram 250gb SSD 2tb HDD Geforce GTX 1080ti 12gb

Edit: Also I still get occasional freezes, where the game no longer responds. Nice patch, what did it do? It didn't fix the issues. Then again it could be that my CPU is unstable. So I am going to try to tune it down to 4.2ghz and leave it at that.

It's been fine for me, I finally started playing it again in the last few days after having issues when it first came out and I have had no problems so far...

Dose the remaster fix the sound issues? I had to play in xp compat mode to get sound to work...

9 times out of ten you have to set it to one CPU, and this an industry wide random az bug....

Ah, the good ol "it works on my PC so everyone else is doing something wrong" argument. Let's just dismiss the plethora of accounts from people talking about the crashing and terrible audio quality - they're wrong, because YOURS seems to be working.

For the record, an i7 4770k, GTX 1060, and 16GB RAM is one expensive sack of potatoes! ;)

I really do want to use the Remaster as my primary way to play this game and the sequel, but with the issues I, and many others, have been experiencing - it doesn't seem like that will happen.

Still, fair play to 2K for still supporting this game with a patch after almost a year, and coincidently on the day I started this thread. I hope they manage to iron out some of the other issues that still linger for both Bioshock 1 and Bioshock 2 and truly do them the justice they deserve.
Mine ran before the update. After the update it crashes as soon as i click play look at the splash screen then boom program stopped working and needs to close error.
