Poor game design

Atrocious controller support for a game with Full-Controller support. Tried playing on keyboard after, but apparently trying to play with a controller before bugged the entire game into an unplayable state. I could probably do a clean install, but I doubt it's worth it.

What a dumb little game.

Well, at least it is short if you want to clear your library, but I only even bothered beating it because it's completed able ion roughly 45 minutes.

A few people will find it cute. The humor is trying to be cute, but i found it to be basic and childish in a poor way. All character dialog boils down to an NPC having a ailment or a pitiful problem like "being too young" or "being too tall" or "lauged too much and jaw has broken" and you heal with a simple auto-shooter minigame.

Humor is subjective of course, your mileage may vary, but if the "comedy" isn't doing it for you with in the first few minutes, uninstall and play something else.

Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt is a 2D retro pixel top down shooter where you control some kind of retro pixel blob and shoot other blobs to heal people. Yeah, me neither.

This was made in a very short space of time for a game jam, and while it's certainly possible to make a video game single handedly in an extremely short space of time, this is a lot like driving a car using only your feet. Yes, you could do it, but it's likely to end in disaster.

Resolution and controls are locked, the game just has a 4:3 aspect ratio and looks slightly worse than a colour Gameboy game, possibly on purpose, or more likely that's the kind of compromise you make when you don't have the time or budget to make a game properly. I'm not the kind of person to suggest gamers deserve compromised games.

While this is free, and that's noble, it's being used to advertise a "fixed", paid version of the same game. The quality here, being the kind of thing that could run in a web browser, just isn't enough that I could recommend this to serious PC gamers, even for free.

Hard to be interested for more than 20min.

Not quite what I thought it was when I bought it. Short and very silly.
Beat it in 2 hours. I didn't find the last boss very hard. For a bit I wandered around seeing if I missed anything as I hadn't finished a certain %. The flashing when a box opened bothered me a bit and I found it annoying. I think I would need to start over to get the last % since it seems there is only one pathway for it to be completed. It has potential but it could use a remake.

This is a retro bullet hell shoot 'em up in which you play as Princess Remedy who goes on a quest to heal the prince, and everyone she encounters along the way. Firstly, despite the Steam store page advertising full controller support, I was not able to get the game to recognize my PS4 controller so controller support may be bugged. The game can be played relatively well with keyboard since it only requires 4 movement keys (WASD or arrow buttons) and an action button (the game allows several, but I used Enter).

Princess Remedy starts with a single weak autofiring weapon and can upgrade her stats by opening treasure stats and healing NPCs. To heal NPCs, you play a bullet hell round where the goal is to kill all enemies onscreen while surviving all the enemy projectiles. The first few bullet hell rounds you encounter at the beginning of the game are very difficult due to your weak starting stats but as you progress through the game and upgrade your weapon it gets slightly easier. You can also throw a limited number of grenades per match to clear multiple enemies though this becomes pretty pointless lategame when enemies can survive multiple grenade blasts. There are no difficulty settings and the bullet hell encounters becomes borderline impossible to complete nearing the end of the game. Princess Remedy has to meet a certain Heart stat threshold to pass gates to the next zones and you increase her Heart stat by beating bullet hell encounters to heal NPCs. In my playthrough, I reached Heart stat 58 before giving up as the gate that required 60 Hearts to unlock the final zone. Oftentimes you need to beat almost every encounter in a zone to meet the Heart requirement on gates, and the game doesn't keep track of which NPCs you've healed so this may lead to a lot of backtracking if you skip some encounters. There is no world map and the game does a poor job of directing you to your next objective.

The game does reward exploration as there are plenty of hidden passages and chests. Unfortunately, this doesn't make up for the lack of difficulty options, unclear pathguiding and basic graphics. The game also has a very serious bug where it continues to run even after exiting the game, and prevents you from closing Steam short of forced shutdown via task manager.

BAD EXPERIENCE REVIEW
The game has a lot of bugs, which you might not encounter any of them but it took me half an hour just to get past the one that made the game unplayable. It COULD HAVE taken 5 minutes if the forum posts with the fixes for the black screen were PINNED!

The game itself might be good, in fact all of my friends recommend it but none of them spent more than 2.8 hours playing it. I may have spent longer than that just trying to get the game to work & not look like garbage while I play it.

I received this game for free for the obvious reason that it's available to all for free.

Then there's the issue of the game rendering all blurry and stuff. I spent at least an hour trying to fix that one but no amount of settings changes fixed that.
The icing on top was when my computer crashed as a result of trying to adjust settings for this game; which caused me to lose what I was writing along with some other data that was not related to this.

Only just NOW did I find out how to make the blurriness go away without losing massive amounts of screen space but I've already lost the data of all open files that I had been writing things to and have spent MORE TIME dealing with bugs & indirect issues this game presented me THAN any of my friends actually spent playing the game.


Now that I've figured out how to get around all of the issues, I'm ready to find out what this game is about (not really, I'm actually mad at it) - but given how much of a pain it was just to deal with the compatibility issues that it presented, I would most definitely NOT recommend this game to anyone.

Now, that said, if I didn't lose too much of what I'd written about it (which I don't think I did), you can probably just follow in my footsteps to get the same fixes faster but I'm sufficiently frustrated with this game now.

Usually I can have half an hour of fun, or more, on just the title screen or main menu of a game, but this one, instead, gave me hours of frustration... before I even got past the title screen! ...and not because the title screen held some sort of difficult puzzle easter egg or something... simply because... it didn't function [first, at all, afterwards, acceptably]

Essentially, how I put it before, in what was lost when my computer crashed. The whole reason that the blurriness is a big issue for me of the game anti-aliasing when there should be crisp, clean, upscaled pixel graphics, is because it makes the game look like I'm playing with cateracts or some sort of eye aberration. That is a very gross and overall unpleasant sensory feeling.

Black Screen fix:

From "remedy.txt" in the game files, which I'm sure you'd have checked if you were determined enough.... eventually:
"If you get a black screen when running the game, try pressing F4 (windowed mode)."
Alternatively:
"Try launching the game in Safe Mode by right clicking on it in the Library list."

Blurry Graphics fix:

Find the game executable, then right click, >> Properties >> Compatibility >> "Disable Desktop Composition"

...unfortunately it only works while a tool tip is present but by pressing the Windows key on the keyboard, then right clicking an item on the task bar, I can get the tiny window options tooltip to appear, making the game not blurry, and still play the game from my controller. This wouldn't work if I wasn't playing from a controller.

This fix worked for me... for 3 seconds... then it stopped working.

Eventually I figured out that the compatibility mode tool-tip was stopping the blurry anti-aliasing from occurring.
This ONLY works in full-screen mode and not in one of the various up-scaled modes.

...but it goes away after 3 seconds... okay, simple, I make the mouse hover over it to keep it from going away and I can re-position the taskbar to either the top or the bottom of the screen to control which side of the screen I'm giving up a significant chunk of space on.

Sacrificing screen space... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....


Now there MIGHT be a third party program I can run to make that tool-tip transparent. (WinWarden)
I know for a fact that exists but I don't know if it will work on the tool-tip bubble & I'd have to go through more effort to find the name of the tool-tip bubble to put in the settings FOR that program that allows windows to be made transparent.
